Production Manager
Job Description
Production Manager - Polyethylene Tubing Extrusion Production Supervisors with extensive hands on extrusion expereince considered!
Location:
Oregon Compensation:
$90,000-$120,000DOE Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 6:00 AM-4:00 PM initially; additional shifts and weekend production may be added as volume increases Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Production Manager / Production Supervisor with hands-on polyethylene tubing extrusion experience to lead the launch of a new extrusion operation in Oregon. This is a unique opportunity to join a growing manufacturing operation at the ground level and play a key role in establishing a new production capability. The company currently sells polyethylene tubing but relies on outside extrusion partners for production. This position will take ownership of bringing the company's first in-house extrusion line online, establishing processes, training operators, and preparing the operation for future expansion. Direct experience running polyethylene tubing extrusion equipment is the critical requirement for this position. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in equipment installation and startup, working alongside technicians from the extrusion equipment manufacturer. As the operation grows, the company plans to add additional extrusion lines and expand into other manufacturing processes. Key Responsibilities Lead the startup and initial operation of a new polyethylene tubing extrusion line. Participate in equipment installation, commissioning, and startup activities. Work directly with equipment manufacturer technicians during the initial line startup. Set up, operate, troubleshoot, and optimize single-screw extrusion equipment. Establish effective extrusion processes and operating procedures. Develop and document standard operating procedures, work instructions, and production processes. Train operators on extrusion equipment, process controls, quality requirements, safety, and troubleshooting. Establish processes that can be replicated as additional extrusion lines are added. Monitor production performance, product quality, scrap, downtime, and overall equipment effectiveness. Troubleshoot extrusion, winding/coiling, sizing, material, and process issues. Help identify opportunities to improve throughput, consistency, quality, and efficiency. Work closely with management to support equipment selection and development of future extrusion lines. Assist with the development and implementation of production schedules as the operation grows. Prepare the operation and workforce for multiple shifts and weekend production during peak periods. Provide hands-on leadership while initially working with a small team of approximately 1-2 operators. Help develop the manufacturing infrastructure needed to expand the operation to 3-4 extrusion lines. Equipment & Process The initial production line will consist of: Single-screw extrusion equipment Capability to produce four different polyethylene tubing diameters Automated coiler/winder Automated self-banding system Required Qualifications Hands-on experience operating polyethylene tubing extrusion equipment is required. Strong understanding of polyethylene extrusion processes and troubleshooting. Experience setting up and optimizing extrusion equipment. Ability to identify and resolve process and equipment issues. Experience training and developing extrusion operators. Ability to read and understand process specifications and production requirements. Strong mechanical and troubleshooting aptitude. Willingness to take a hands-on approach during startup and production. Ability to work extended production days during the initial startup period and peak production periods. Preferred Qualifications Experience with polyethylene tubing extrusion in a production environment. Experience with single-screw extruders. Experience with automated winding, coiling, or take-up systems. Experience with tubing sizing and cooling systems. Experience launching a new extrusion line or manufacturing process. Experience developing SOPs and operator training programs. Experience supporting equipment installation and commissioning. Experience helping expand an extrusion operation from one line to multiple lines. Leadership & Growth Opportunity This position is designed to grow with the operation. Initially, the Production Manager/Supervisor will work with a small team of approximately 1-2 operators and will have relatively limited direct people-management responsibilities. The primary focus will be getting the extrusion operation running successfully and transferring that knowledge to the production team. The company has a dependable and motivated workforce available to support the operation. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing those employees into capable extrusion operators and building the training foundation necessary to support additional shifts and future production lines. The long-term plan is to expand the operation to approximately 3-4 extrusion lines , with additional manufacturing capabilities, including injection molding. As the company grows, there will be opportunities for expanded management and potentially director-level responsibilities. Startup Opportunity Candidates identified within the next 60-90 days may have the opportunity to participate directly in the installation and commissioning of the first extrusion line. This position offers the opportunity to have a significant impact on the company's manufacturing operation from day one—rather than stepping into an established process, the successful candidate will help build the extrusion operation, establish the processes, train the team, and create the foundation for future expansion. The ideal candidate is not simply someone who has operated an extruder—they are someone who understands how to make polyethylene tubing consistently, troubleshoot the process, train other people to do it, and build a repeatable production operation that can scale.
