CNC Lathe Department Manager
Job Description
CNC Lathe Department Manager Rubicon Gear | Corona, CA | Full-Time, On-Site Company Overview Rubicon Gear is a premier manufacturer of high-precision gears and splines for critical industries, including Aerospace & Defense, Space, and Energy. We are seeking an experienced hands-on leader to manage the CNC Lathe Department at our Corona, CA facility. You will oversee 12 CNC lathes and a dedicated team of 10 machinists. A robust support structure, including Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Control, NC Programming, Tool Crib, and Maintenance, is already in place, allowing you to focus 100% of your energy on improving People, Machinery, and Process. Key Responsibilities

Floor Leadership:
Lead from the shop floor daily, providing clear direction, active coaching, and continuous support to your machining team.

KPI Metrics:
Drive and track department performance in Safety, 6S, Quality, Efficiency, and Training & Development.
•
Continuous Improvement:
Build a culture of continuous improvement and develop best-in-class Standard Operating Procedures.
•
Team Development:
Recruit, mentor, and build a high-performing team of machinists with strong technical skills and work ethic.
•
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Partner closely with Engineering, QC, NC Programming, and Maintenance to quickly resolve issues and optimize manufacturing processes. Requirements

Machinery Expertise:
15+ years of hands-on experience with CNC lathes; Okuma experience strongly preferred.
•
Proven Leadership:
5+ years in a supervisory or management role within a precision machine shop (required).
•
Management Style:
A true "Player/Coach" who can both execute technical tasks and train others, earning respect on the shop floor.
•
Expert CNC Proficiency:
Mastery of CNC lathe setup, operation, process optimization, work holding, cutting tool selection, and advanced troubleshooting.
•
Controls & Programming:
Deep familiarity with NC controls and NC programming.
•
Communication:
Exceptional communication skills and a proven ability to collaborate across departments. Job Details

Compensation Range:
$85,000 - $100,000 / Annually
