Job Description

Position Overview Seeking an experienced Steel Detailer to produce accurate, fabrication-ready drawings for structural steel and miscellaneous metals projects. This position will create Tekla models, shop drawings, erection drawings, bills of materials, and fabrication files while coordinating with Project Management, Engineering, Operations, and Production. Key Responsibilities Create and maintain 3D models using Tekla Structures. Produce and revise drawings using AutoCAD. Detail structural steel and miscellaneous metals, including: Beams, columns, braces, and connections Stairs, railings, ladders, and platforms Mezzanines and equipment-support structures Metal buildings, barns, and custom-fabricated assemblies Prepare shop drawings, erection drawings, bills of materials, and fabrication reports. Generate and verify NC1, CNC, and DXF files when required. Review architectural, structural, and contract drawings for conflicts, missing information, and constructability concerns. Prepare RFIs and incorporate approved responses and drawing revisions. Coordinate detailing releases with material procurement and fabrication schedules. Provide prompt drawing clarification and technical support to the shop. Maintain organized project files, drawing histories, and revision control. Meet assigned drawing and release deadlines. Required Qualifications At least five years of professional Tekla Structures experience. At least five years of professional AutoCAD experience. At least five years of structural steel or miscellaneous metals detailing experience. Experience producing shop and erection drawings for steel fabrication. Strong ability to read architectural, structural, and engineering drawings. Working knowledge of steel connections, welding, bolting, materials, and fabrication practices. Strong attention to detail, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently. Preferred Qualifications Experience detailing stairs, railings, ladders, platforms, and mezzanines. Experience with metal buildings, barns, and custom-fabricated steel. Experience with Tekla PowerFab. Familiarity with AISC and AWS standards. Experience generating NC1, CNC, and DXF fabrication files. Experience working directly with fabrication shops.
