Job Description

Job Summary The Industrial Press Supervisor oversees the operation of hydraulic press lines used in the production of melamine, laminate, and panel-based products. This role is responsible for supervising press operators, managing production schedules, ensuring quality output, and maintaining safe, efficient press operations. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with high-pressure industrial press systems and can contribute productively from day one with minimal ramp-up time. Key Responsibilities Press Operations & Technical Oversight Oversee daily operation of industrial hydraulic presses, including setup, calibration, and parameter adjustment for pressure, temperature, and cycle times. Monitor material behavior under pressure and temperature to ensure product quality and consistency across melamine, laminate, MDF, and panel production runs. Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and hydraulic faults in press equipment, coordinating with the Maintenance team on repairs and preventive maintenance schedules. Adjust press settings in response to material variations, production requirements, and quality deviations. Team Leadership Supervise and lead a team of press operators, providing hands-on guidance and technical direction during production. Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to improve team capability and output. Assign tasks and priorities based on production schedules and operational needs. Foster a safety-first, continuous-improvement team culture. Quality Assurance Implement and enforce quality control standards to ensure finished products meet company and customer specifications. Conduct regular inspections of press output, identifying defects related to pressure, temperature, or material handling. Lead corrective action processes when quality issues arise. Safety & Compliance Enforce all safety protocols related to high-pressure equipment operation, hydraulic systems, and heated press components. Conduct safety training sessions and ensure compliance with OSHA, company policies, and industry regulations. Report and investigate any safety incidents or near-misses involving press equipment. Process Improvement & Reporting Identify opportunities to improve press efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize cycle times. Analyze production data and generate reports on output, downtime, and quality metrics. Collaborate with Production Management and Engineering on process optimization initiatives. Inventory & Resource Management Monitor inventory levels of press consumables, tooling, and raw materials, coordinating timely replenishment with procurement. Ensure proper handling and storage of materials to prevent damage or waste. Required Qualifications Minimum 3 years of direct experience operating and/or supervising industrial press equipment (hydraulic presses, laminating presses, hot presses, or stamping presses). Minimum 2 years in a supervisory or team lead role within a manufacturing environment. Demonstrated knowledge of hydraulic systems, including troubleshooting, adjustment, and basic maintenance. Hands-on experience with high-pressure and high-temperature production processes. Ability to diagnose mechanical faults in press equipment and coordinate effective repairs. High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certifications in manufacturing, industrial technology, or mechanical systems is a plus. Preferred Qualifications Experience specifically in melamine, laminate, MDF, plywood, or composite panel press operations. Background in wood-based panel manufacturing or furniture component production. Experience with metal stamping presses (transferable hydraulic/mechanical press skills). Familiarity with European-manufactured press equipment. Bilingual English/Spanish. Skills & Competencies Strong mechanical aptitude with focus on hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Effective leadership and team management skills. Data-driven approach to production tracking and process improvement. Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities. Commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement. Work Environment & Physical Requirements Manufacturing floor environment with exposure to heat, noise, and heavy machinery. Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work near high-temperature equipment. Willingness to work flexible shifts as production demands require. Reporting The Industrial Press Supervisor reports to the Production Manager or designated manufacturing leadership.
