Today, we build premium center console boats and legendary inboard diesel-powered sportfish yachts ranging from 28' to 65' at our manufacturing facility in Tampa, Florida, serving customers through a worldwide dealer network. We are growing and strengthening our manufacturing organization to support Bertram's long-term future, and we are looking for a Yacht Production Manager who wants to make an impact . This is an opportunity for someone who loves manufacturing, enjoys being on the shop floor, knows how to bring out the best in people, and takes pride in seeing a complex, beautiful product come together through the efforts of a great team. As Yacht Production Manager, you will lead Bertram's assembly operations and supporting sub-assembly functions, including electrical, carpentry, hatch assembly, mechanical installation, and related boatbuilding activities. You will be responsible for turning the production plan into results while ensuring that our boats are built safely, on schedule, efficiently, and to the quality standards our customers expect from Bertram. Just as importantly, you will build the team that builds the boats. We are looking for a leader who is comfortable spending time on the production floor, talking with employees, teaching, listening, solving problems, setting expectations, and holding people accountable. The right person combines strong manufacturing discipline with great people skills and understands that high performance comes from developing talented people, giving them clear objectives, and helping them succeed. You will have the opportunity to influence how the department operates, develop future leaders, improve manufacturing processes, work directly with Engineering and Operations, and see the results of your decisions move through production all the way to a finished Bertram yacht. For someone who wants responsibility, enjoys solving challenging problems, and wants to leave a visible mark on both our products and our organization, this is an opportunity to have a significant impact on Bertram's future.
Responsibilities:
Production Leadership Lead all assembly and supporting sub-assembly operations, including electrical, carpentry, hatch assembly, mechanical installation, and related functions. Translate the overall manufacturing schedule into clear weekly and daily production objectives for leads and assembly teams. Establish daily crew assignments and ensure every team understands what must be accomplished and why it matters. Maintain production schedules and proactively identify and resolve issues that could affect boat completion dates. Manage labor hours against planned hours and continually improve department productivity and efficiency. Monitor progress directly on the production floor and take timely action when quality, schedule, or cost performance deviates from plan. Ensure employees have the materials, tools, equipment, drawings, information, and support necessary to perform their jobs effectively. Take ownership of departmental performance and work collaboratively with other functions to remove barriers to success. Build and Develop a Great Team Create an environment where employees understand what is expected of them, take pride in their work, and have the opportunity to develop their skills and careers. Lead from the production floor, maintaining a visible, accessible, and positive presence with the team. Know your people, understand their strengths, and help them become better at what they do. Develop supervisors and team leads who can take ownership, solve problems, communicate effectively, and lead others. Coach employees regularly and provide timely, direct, and constructive performance feedback. Recognize strong performance while addressing performance or behavioral issues promptly and consistently. Establish measurable performance and development goals and follow up with employees on their progress. Identify skill gaps and create practical training and development plans to strengthen the capabilities of the department. Develop an effective training process for new employees that accelerates their ability to become productive members of the team. Participate in hiring, promotion, development, disciplinary, and other personnel decisions. Build a culture of teamwork, accountability, communication, craftsmanship, and continuous improvement. Quality and Craftsmanship Build and reinforce a culture in which quality belongs to everyone and employees take personal pride in the boats they produce. Ensure assembly work meets Bertram's standards for craftsmanship, fit, finish, functionality, and reliability. Establish clear quality expectations and ensure employees understand the requirements for their work. Monitor quality performance and address problems at their source rather than allowing issues to move downstream in production. Partner with Quality, Engineering, and Operations to identify root causes of recurring issues and implement lasting corrective actions. Help develop manufacturing processes and quality systems capable of consistently delivering products worthy of Bertram's premium brand position. Monitor product quality and relevant warranty performance and use those results to continuously improve production. Manufacturing Excellence and Continuous Improvement Continuously look for better ways to build boats: safer, easier, faster, more consistently, and with less waste. Develop and refine manufacturing process flows to improve production throughput, manufacturability, ergonomics, and labor efficiency. Support the creation and maintenance of documented build processes, work instructions, and standard work. Establish and maintain 5S and effective workplace organization throughout the department. Engage employees in solving problems and improving their own work areas and processes. Identify opportunities to improve tooling, fixtures, work sequencing, material flow, workstations, and manufacturing methods. Establish measurable department performance indicators and use them to drive continuous improvement. Standardize successful improvements so that better ways of working become part of how Bertram builds boats. Safety Make employee safety a fundamental part of how the department operates every day. Maintain a safe, organized, and professional working environment. Ensure employees consistently follow company safety policies and procedures. Identify and correct unsafe conditions, equipment, and work practices. Reinforce the expectation that every employee is responsible for both their own safety and the safety of the people working around them. Participate in company safety initiatives and applicable OSHA and EPA compliance activities. Engineering and Product Development Build a strong working relationship between Production and Engineering. Participate actively in product development and design reviews and represent the needs and experience of the people who will ultimately build the product. Provide practical manufacturing input on manufacturability, assembly sequence, accessibility, ergonomics, tooling, materials, and component installation. Support the successful introduction of new products and product changes into manufacturing. Identify recurring production difficulties that can be eliminated through engineering, tooling, process, or product improvements. Help ensure that new designs can be consistently produced at the required quality, cost, and production rate. Department Management Maintain effective department staffing and allocate employees based on production priorities, skill requirements, and workload. Manage attendance, punctuality, employee scheduling, timekeeping, and related personnel requirements. Maintain appropriate department procedures, operating standards, staffing plans, training records, and performance documentation. Maintain department equipment and production resources in cooperation with Maintenance and Operations. Communicate production performance, accomplishments, risks, quality concerns, resource requirements, and recovery plans to the Director of Operations. Maintain and report performance against established safety, quality, schedule, labor efficiency, and cost objectives. Support company-wide operational initiatives and perform other duties as assigned. Requirements We recognize that excellent manufacturing leaders develop their capabilities through a combination of education, hands-on experience, leadership, and a genuine desire to learn. We are most interested in candidates who can demonstrate that they have successfully led people and delivered results in a demanding manufacturing environment. Demonstrated experience leading manufacturing or production teams. Marine manufacturing, boatbuilding, yacht manufacturing, or comparable complex product assembly experience strongly preferred. Strong working knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes. Boatbuilding knowledge across areas such as mechanical systems, electrical systems, carpentry, plumbing, hardware installation, and final assembly is highly desirable. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, specifications, bills of material, work instructions, and other technical documentation. Strong understanding of production scheduling, labor planning, planned versus actual hours, quality management, and manufacturing performance metrics. Demonstrated ability to solve problems, determine root causes, and implement practical corrective actions. Experience with continuous improvement, standard work, 5S, and manufacturing process improvement. Strong understanding of manufacturing safety practices. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple boats, teams, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously. Excellent people and leadership skills, with a demonstrated ability to communicate, coach, motivate, develop, and hold employees accountable. Willingness to spend significant time on the production floor working directly with the team. A hands-on, results-oriented leadership style with a strong sense of ownership and urgency. High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field is preferred. The Person We Are Looking For Beyond experience and technical knowledge, we are looking for someone who wants to lead . You enjoy seeing people develop because of your coaching. You are comfortable setting high expectations while treating people fairly and respectfully. When a production problem arises, your instinct is to go to the floor, understand what is happening, involve the right people, and find a solution. You don't walk past problems, and you don't believe that every problem belongs to someone else. You understand that building a premium yacht requires craftsmanship, discipline, teamwork, and attention to detail. You take pride in delivering results and want your team to feel the same pride when a completed Bertram leaves the factory. If you are looking for an opportunity where your leadership, energy, ideas, and effort will be visible in both the people you develop and the boats we build, we would like to meet you. Perform other duties as assigned.
