Job Description
Job Overview We are seeking an energetic and detail-oriented 2nd Shift Zone Leader to join our manufacturing team. The Zone Leader oversees 8-15 operators and ensures safe, consistent, and efficient daily production. This role provides clear direction, coaches new hires, enforces standard work, and maintains strong floor communication. The Zone Leader manages staffing issues, attendance, and shift hand‑offs while updating and maintaining SQDCP boards. They drive key performance metrics—including OEE, scrap reduction, FPY, and downtime escalation—through first‑level root cause analysis and quality checks. With a focus on safety, accountability, and respectful shop‑floor culture, the Zone Leader ensures policy compliance, standard work verification, and effective issue escalation to support reliable, high‑quality operations. Duties Lead and support 8-15 production operators, providing clear daily direction, accountability, and shift hand‑offs. Run daily shift startup meetings and maintain strong floor‑level communication. Manage staffing gaps, attendance issues, and first‑level discipline. Train and coach new hires while nurturing a respectful and positive shop‑floor culture. Drive a safety‑first mindset, ensuring PPE compliance and adherence to plant policies. Verify standard work execution and enforce consistent work practices. Perform routine quality checks, escalate issues appropriately, and support first‑level root cause analysis. Maintain and update SQDCP boards daily, communicating performance expectations and results. Manage downtime escalation and provide clarity on issue escalation paths. Support problem‑solving efforts using 5 Why, fishbone diagrams, downtime paretos, and other basic root cause tools. Understand and help drive key performance metrics including OEE, scrap reduction, and First Pass Yield. Experience Coaching mindset with the ability to train and mentor employees effectively. Skilled in conducting training sessions and verifying training completion Ability to document shift reports, escalation notes, and training records professionally Strong conflict‑resolution skills and the ability to coach through performance or behavior challenges 3 + years automotive manufacturing Prior informal leadership or trainer role Proven ability to remain calm and effective under pressure Demonstrated track record of fair but firm accountability Experience handling difficult employee situations professionally Drive for action with the ability to make timely, informed decisions Experience with SQDCP boards Exposure to IATF audits Comfortable with production reporting and basic Excel functions Comfortable using visual management boards Understanding of documentation standards for shift reporting and escalations Ability to interpret and communicate key operational information Join us as a 1st Shift Zone Leader to inspire operational excellence, champion continuous improvement efforts, and lead a dedicated team toward achieving manufacturing success.
