Assistant Plant Manager Position Summary The Paint Shop Foreman is responsible for ensuring the safe, accurate, and efficient operation of the production floor within the Clean & Paint department. This role involves supervising skilled painters, loaders, and machine operators, interpreting blueprints, improving production capacities, and ensuring all work meets quality and safety standards.Major Responsibilities/Activities:
Ensure safe, accurate, and efficient operations on the production floor, applying industry "Best Practices". Apply experience and knowledge to accurately read and interpret blueprints, and execute project specifications, consulting with the Supervisor as needed. Utilize experience and knowledge to improve production capacities and contribute effectively to company objectives. Supervise skilled painters, loaders, and machine operators in the Clean & Paint department. Inspect all work in progress and finished products during and at the end of each shift. Supervise and participate in painting, loading, and running the Wheelabrator; inspect surfaces for cleanliness and readiness for painting; and inspect equipment. Discuss and oversee daily tasks with painters, loaders, and Wheelabrator operators to ensure understanding of expectations. Train, instruct, and supervise others performing structural steel painting. Schedule and coordinate people, materials, and logistics to complete production assignments on time and within budget, leading workers by example. Schedule and supervise personnel, ensuring safe and efficient workflow. Direct the sequence of work, define appropriate "Means and Methods," and assure compliance to specifications (i.e., Quality Control). Interface shop production to field schedule and job-site needs; troubleshoot fabrication and material issues to the extent feasible. Use experience and good judgment to deliver per customer expectations. Work cooperatively with the Shipping Manager and Day Shift Foreman to produce optimal results. Prepare reports as per schedule and content.Periodic Functions:
Train others in technical performance such as painting, loading, blueprint reading, and measuring. Prepare production reports as requested. Ensure worker compliance with the company's Safety Program.Required Skills:
2+ years' experience in structural steel painting. Skill in applying paints and other finishes by brush and spray equipment, and in mixing paints. Ability to plan, lay out, assign, and supervise the work of machine operators, painters, and loaders. Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience supervising and coordinating employees. Ability to read and interpret shop drawings. Ability to effectively tolerate a high-stress environment. Must be dependable. Must be adaptable and flexible to change.Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift, push/pull, and carry material exceeding 50 lbs. Bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching to inspect welds. Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time. Must be able to work in extreme temperatures for extended periods of time.Education Requirement:
High School Diploma or equivalent.Note:
