Position Overview The Steel Mill Turn Foreman is responsible for keeping the shift safe, on schedule, and in compliance with quality standards. This role is the first point of contact for operational and personnel issues that arise during the turn, requiring a hands-on leader who is comfortable making real-time decisions on the mill floor. The Turn Foreman works closely with area supervisors, operations, and union stewards to keep production moving while reinforcing consistent, fair application of company policy and the collective bargaining agreement across the crew.
Core Responsibilities:
Maintenance Leadership & Workforce Management Manage and direct the hourly maintenance workforce. Supervise the maintenance crafts and coordinate repairs in production areas. Follow up on shift objectives and direct resources to complete timely repairs to equipment. Coordinate maintenance activities to support production needs and minimize equipment downtime. Equipment & Shift Operations Perform equipment inspections. Monitor equipment conditions and identify maintenance needs requiring follow-up. Work rotating shifts to provide maintenance leadership and support during assigned shifts. Document shift activities and prepare reports as required. Communication & Coordination Interface effectively with other members of supervision, personnel from other departments, and ISWA personnel. Communicate maintenance priorities, equipment conditions, repair status, and shift activities to appropriate personnel. Coordinate resources and maintenance activities with production and other departments as needed. Safety, Quality & Operational Performance Maintain accountability for productivity, quality, safety, and housekeeping within assigned areas. Support scrap control and process control objectives. Reinforce safe work practices and company safety requirements during maintenance activities. Address maintenance issues in a timely manner while maintaining appropriate safety and quality standards. Qualifications Candidates interested in this role should have the following qualifications: 3+ years of experience in a steel mill or heavy industrial manufacturing environment Prior lead or foreman experience preferred Working knowledge of melting, casting, or rolling operations Experience in a unionized environment strongly preferred High school diploma or equivalent required; technical/vocational training a plus Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as required Strong communication and problem-solving skills under pressure We are an equal opportunity employer.
