Production Supervisor Job Description The Production Supervisor oversees a team of approximately 18-20 union production employees and 2 team leaders in a die casting manufacturing environment. This role supervises 21 individual die cast machines, coordinates daily production activities, ensures safety and quality standards, and maintains efficient operations across multiple shifts. The Production Supervisor actively monitors machine status, assigns work, addresses quality and personnel issues, and maintains accurate production and personnel records. Responsibilities Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of production and operating workers across 21 die cast machines. Lead a team of approximately 18-20 union employees and 2 team leaders, providing clear direction, coaching, and support. Attend pass-on meetings at the start of each shift to receive and share key operational updates. Review attendance in Kronos to identify call-ins and adjust staffing and assignments accordingly. Review the production lineup to determine which jobs are running and allocate employees to machines and tasks based on production needs. Conduct daily safety talks with the team, reinforcing safe work practices and compliance with safety procedures. Monitor the status of all assigned machines throughout the shift, ensuring they run efficiently and safely. Assign tasks and reassign resources throughout the day to meet production schedules and address changing priorities. Identify and resolve quality issues promptly, using problem-solving skills to make effective decisions and implement corrective actions. Collaborate with technical or administrative staff to resolve production or processing problems. Develop and implement production tracking and quality control systems to detect and address production problems. Analyze production, quality control, and maintenance data to improve methods, equipment performance, product quality, and overall efficiency. Recommend measures to motivate employees and improve production processes, equipment performance, and product quality. Handle employee relations matters within the team, including coaching, discipline, and resolution of personal grievances, in accordance with company policies and union guidelines. Participate in hiring, training, evaluating, and, when necessary, discharging staff, ensuring appropriate documentation and communication. Prepare and maintain accurate production reports, personnel records, and pass-on sheets for the next shift. Use computer applications such as Microsoft Outlook and Excel to track production data, prepare reports, and communicate with other departments. Document and communicate end-of-shift notes to ensure smooth handoffs between shifts. Ensure adherence to quality control standards and procedures, including inspection of parts and adherence to die casting specifications. Support leadership development within the team by mentoring team leaders and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Essential Skills 8-10 years of experience in production supervision or a similar role in a manufacturing environment, preferably with die casting operations. At least 5 years of leadership experience when combined with a high school diploma or GED. Proven experience supervising production teams in a manufacturing setting, including responsibility for safety, quality, and productivity. Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly convey expectations, feedback, and instructions to team members. High attention to detail with the ability to identify issues and ensure adherence to quality and safety standards. Demonstrated problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure and resolve production and quality issues. Ability to work independently, manage one's time effectively, and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, and quality control techniques used in manufacturing and die casting. Knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, uses, repair, and maintenance in a production environment. Understanding of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook and Excel, for communication, reporting, and data analysis. Technical experience sufficient to understand and troubleshoot die casting equipment and related production processes. High school diploma or GED. Additional Skills & Qualifications Associate's degree in business or a related field is preferred. Bachelor's degree is preferred for candidates with a high school diploma. Experience in the automotive manufacturing industry is highly beneficial. Union environment experience is a strong plus. Experience with die casting operations and processes. Experience with production supervision specifically in a manufacturing environment. Familiarity with Kronos or similar time and attendance systems. Experience in leadership development and coaching of team leaders. Ability to interpret and work with technical plans, blueprints, and drawings. Contract position based in the United States. The position follows a 12-hour shift schedule with a two-week alternating pattern (for example, 2 days on/2 days off, then 3 days on/3 days off), and includes required weekend work, so openness to working Saturdays and Sundays is essential.
There are three primary shifts:
1st shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (with required arrival at 6:30 a.m. for handoff meetings), 2nd shift from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., and 3rd shift from 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Supervisors are expected to arrive 30 minutes before their scheduled shift for pass-on meetings and shift handovers. The environment is typical of a heavy manufacturing and die casting facility, with exposure to machinery, noise, and production materials, requiring adherence to safety procedures and appropriate industrial work attire and personal protective equipment Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Bedford, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $36.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
