Job Description

Company Overview Basic Industries is a rapidly expanding, high-volume wood component manufacturing company dedicated to producing a diverse range of stakes and other wood products to meet various customer needs. Our focus on customer satisfaction and quality has fueled our growth, and we are committed to building a strong, collaborative team that enjoys working together. Full-time | $25-$30 per hour | Four 10-hour days per week Basic Industries manufactures wood stakes and other wood components. We're hiring a hands-on second-in-command for our Hutchinson shop. This person will own shipping and logistics, keep production and inventory records accurate, and help direct the shop when our current plant leader is away. The work is varied. One day may involve scheduling a truck and preparing a shipment; another may involve driving a delivery, operating a forklift, picking up parts, updating spreadsheets, or helping on the production floor. We're looking for someone who follows through, stays organized, and wants to learn the entire operation. What you'll do Own day-to-day shipping and logistics, including scheduling trucks, coordinating pickups and deliveries, and making sure orders are ready to ship. Load, unload, and organize materials and finished products using a forklift. Drive our company straight truck for mostly local pickups and deliveries, with occasional trips that take most of the day. Keep production numbers, inventory records, and shipping information current and accurate. Enter data and create or maintain spreadsheets and reports. Pick up parts, pallets, and supplies, and help resolve issues that could slow production. Help on the shop floor wherever needed. When the plant leader is away, direct daily work and make practical production decisions. Help supervise and train employees, including incarcerated employees working in our shop. A path to leading the shop Our current plant leader plans to retire in approximately two years. We intend to train the right person to take over that role. You'll work alongside him, learn how the shop runs, and take on more responsibility as you demonstrate that you're ready. The transition will depend on performance, readiness, and business needs. What you'll need Strong computer skills, including comfort entering data and working with spreadsheets. A valid driver's license and the ability to qualify to drive a company vehicle. Good organization, sound judgment, and dependable follow-through. Willingness to move between physical shop work, driving, coordination, and computer work. Ability to communicate clearly and lead people respectfully. Prior supervisory experience is preferred. Forklift experience, straight-truck driving, and mechanical knowledge are also pluses. We're willing to train a strong candidate who has the aptitude and work habits to grow into the role. Work environment and schedule Our shop operates on correctional facility property in Hutchinson. The role includes working with and helping supervise resident employees. The selected candidate will need to meet facility access requirements and complete additional training for working in this environment. This employee structure allows us to expand and contract easily to customer needs. If you are a manufacturing person, you will understand how this will drastically improve your utilization rates and make your shop ultra competitive. The typical schedule is four 10-hour days per week , generally around 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Workdays and hours may shift to meet shipping and delivery needs, including Friday coverage. Pay and benefits $25-$32 per hour, based on experience and ability to take on responsibility Company contribution toward health insurance Paid time off and paid holidays Flexibility in a small-company work environment Training and a planned path toward leading the shop If you like taking ownership, solving the problems in front of you, and learning every part of an operation, we'd like to hear from you. Please tell us about your experience with shipping, production, driving, forklifts, spreadsheets, or leading a team.
