Job Description
Hiring for a Material Handling Supervisor in La Vergne, TN Job Description The Material Handling Supervisor leads a team of material handlers across multiple shifts to ensure safe, efficient, and accurate movement of materials within a manufacturing environment. This role focuses on implementing and enforcing safety protocols, overseeing inventory and materials management processes, and monitoring production metrics to support operational performance. Responsibilities Lead and supervise a team of 22 direct reports, including approximately 15 employees on first shift and 7 employees on second shift. Work on first shift while coordinating closely with the second shift supervisor to ensure consistent processes and performance across shifts. Implement and enforce safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment for all team members. Monitor and analyze production metrics to identify trends, opportunities for improvement, and potential issues in material flow and handling. Oversee material handling operations to ensure timely and accurate movement of materials to and from production areas. Manage logistics and inventory processes to support efficient production and minimize downtime. Ensure proper use of warehouse management and ERP systems to maintain accurate inventory records. Coordinate with production, logistics, and other departments to align material handling activities with production schedules and priorities. Support continuous improvement initiatives in materials management, inventory control, and warehouse operations. Train, coach, and develop team members to follow established procedures and meet performance expectations. Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and operational excellence within the material handling team. Essential Skills Proven experience in a supervisory role within a manufacturing or industrial environment. Hands-on experience with material handling operations in a production setting. Strong knowledge of production, logistics, inventory processes, and inventory management. Experience with materials management and warehouse management practices. Familiarity with ERP systems used for inventory and materials tracking. Ability to implement and enforce safety protocols and procedures. Skill in monitoring and analyzing production metrics to drive performance improvements. Strong leadership and team management abilities with experience supervising frontline staff. Effective communication and coordination skills across shifts and departments. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience working with steel in a manufacturing or material handling environment is preferred. Experience in a non-climate-controlled industrial facility. Comfort working in a steel-focused production environment. Experience in coordinating material flow in support of production operations. Why Work Here? The position requires regular presence on the shop floor, close interaction with material handlers and production teams, and adherence to all safety procedures and required personal protective equipment appropriate for a steel and material handling facility. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of La Vergne, TN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $68000.00 - $80000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
