Assistant Foreman Summary/Objective The Assistant Foreman supports the Foreman and field leadership team by coordinating daily jobsite activities,assistingwith crew direction,maintainingsafety standards, and ensuring quality execution of commercial drywall work. This position plays a key role in productivity, organization, and communication across the project team and serves as a developmental role toward becoming a Foreman. Primary Job Responsibilities Assist the Foreman in assigning daily tasks and coordinating crew activities. Provide guidance and support to field employees, promoting teamwork and productivity. Serve as a point of contact when the Foreman is unavailable. Encourage a positive and professional work environment aligned with NDC's values. Support layout, framing, backing, hanging, finishing, and related drywall tasks. Interpret plans, specifications, and project details accurately. Ensure materials are properly staged, tracked, and utilized efficiently. Assist in verifying dimensions, tolerances, and installation requirements. Promote and enforce all safety requirements and protocols. Conduct daily tool, equipment, and PPE checks. Maintain a clean, safe, and hazard-free work environment. Support the Safety team in implementing jobsite-specific safety plans. Assist in monitoring the quality of work completed by crews. Identify deficiencies early and coordinate corrective measures. Support mock-ups, inspections, and QA/QC processes. Assist in maintaining daily logs, labor tracking, and material requests. Communicate effectively with the Foreman, Superintendent, PM, Safety, and other trades. Support coordination of manpower, equipment, deliveries, and workflow. Other Responsibilities Assist in training apprentices and laborers as needed. Contribute to project planning and material ordering discussions. Perform punch list work and final installations as directed. Other duties assigned by supervisors or project managers. Competencies, Skills, Abilities, Qualifications Strong understanding of drywall systems including framing, hanging, finishing, acoustical assemblies, and fire-rated systems. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings. Familiarity with sequencing, workflow, and commercial construction practices. Ability to lead and motivate small crews. Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities. Ability to train and mentor junior team members. Professional communication and interpersonal skills. Dependability and ownership of tasks. Strong work ethic and commitment to NDC values. Safety-focused mindset. Adaptability and willingness to learn. Supervisory Responsibility Brief the crew daily for safety and production expectations. Work Environment This role operates primarily on active construction sites.
Conditions may include:
Exposure to varying weather conditions including extreme temperatures. Uneven terrain, elevated surfaces, or confined spaces. Loud environments with dust and airborne particles. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the primary functions of this job. Regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Use of hands and arms to lift, carry, push, and pull construction materials and tools. Frequently lift or move materials up to 50 pounds; occasionally up to 75 pounds. Climbing ladders, scaffolding, and working at heights as needed. Visual acuity to read plans, measure materials, and checkalignment. Expected Hours of Work Thisisafull-time position. Hoursofworkvaryfromjobsitetojobsitebasedonthecontractor'sschedule. Evening and weekend work may berequired based on project needs. Travel Travelistypicallylocaltoassignedjobsites. Noregulardomesticorinternationaltravelisexpected Required Education and Experience 3+ years minimum experience in commercial drywall construction. Prior lead or crew-leader experience preferred. Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work in various job-site conditions. OSHA-10 certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days).
