Job Description
Steensma Lawn & Power is a growing family-owned business specializing in equipment sales and service for the Lawn & Garden industry in Southwest Michigan. We are currently looking to fill a New Equipment Assembly Manager position at our Kalamazoo location. Duties & Responsibilities Lead, supervise, and mentor the New Equipment Assembly team to ensure high-quality, efficient assembly of all new equipment Oversee the full process of assembling, inspecting, testing, and cleaning new equipment before customer delivery Coordinate equipment pickup, delivery, and customer handoff, including scheduling and route management Personally deliver and demonstrate equipment use and safety features to customers when needed, while ensuring the entire team maintains professional standards Assist customers with loading/unloading and provide excellent customer service during deliveries Maintain strong communication with sales, service, and parts departments to ensure smooth workflow and timely equipment readiness Implement and enforce quality control standards, checklists, and procedures to achieve perfection-driven results Manage inventory of assembly parts, tools, and supplies; work with vendors as needed Train and develop team members on proper assembly techniques, safety protocols, and customer interaction standards Assist other departments and teams with various tasks as business needs require Monitor and maintain a clean, safe, and organized assembly area Track team performance, attendance, and productivity; conduct regular performance reviews Qualifications Proven leadership or supervisory experience (minimum 2+ years preferred) Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with mechanical, automotive, or small engine equipment Excellent customer service and professional communication skills Positive attitude, reliable, and highly team-oriented Perfection-driven with strong attention to detail and quality focus Ability to motivate and develop a team in a fast-paced environment Clean driving record and valid driver's license Ability to pass MDOT Physical and eligible for Chauffer License Experience in the lawn & garden, powersports, or heavy equipment industry is a strong plus Working Conditions Position requires a mix of hands-on assembly work and managerial oversight Frequent standing for extended periods, walking, and bending Regular lifting of 60lbs or more Up to 2-4 hours per day in a company vehicle for deliveries and customer support Shop and outdoor environment (subject to weather conditions during deliveries) Benefits 401K Health Insurance HSA Paid Vacation Paid Holidays This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who takes pride in delivering top-quality equipment and exceptional customer experiences while building a strong, reliable assembly team.
