SUMMARY OF POSITION
Schwab Industries is seeking a CNC Milling Manager to lead milling operations for aerospace and automotive manufacturing. This hands-on leadership role is accountable for department safety, quality, on-time completion, and machining performance. The manager leads operators and programmers, coordinates staffing and machine capacity, develops employees, and provides technical support for complex setups, large weldments, and production troubleshooting. The successful candidate combines strong CNC milling experience with demonstrated team leadership, proficiency with CAM systems and precision measurement, and experience with Fanuc, Fidia, and Heidenhain controls. leadership & operations
- Plan, organize, and oversee all milling department operations
- Assign personnel and schedule mill capacity to meet production and delivery requirements
- Lead daily workflow and provide direction to operators and programmers
- Participate in production planning and department meetings
- Communicate job priorities, engineering changes, and customer requirements to the team
- Identify and resolve production, quality, or scheduling issues
- Monitor on-time job completion, actual machining hours against estimates, rework, and effective use of personnel and machines; take corrective action when results fall short
- Coach employees, provide performance feedback, develop training plans, and address performance issues
- Identify staffing needs and support hiring and onboarding with management
- Promote continuous improvement in machining processes, tooling, and workflow Technical & Machining Oversight
- Utilize customer-supplied models, drawings, datum schemes, and GD&T
- Ensure electronic job folders contain current and accurate engineering data
- Support CNC machine setup, operation, and troubleshooting as required
- Ensure NC programs, setup sheets, and job documentation are accurate and up to date
- Oversee implementation of engineering changes to fixtures, tooling, and check aids
- Ensure machining operations meet dimensional, surface finish, and configuration requirements
- Support machining of large tooling and welded structures, including setup strategy, sequence planning, and part stability considerations
- Direct and support programmers in the effective use of CAM software and approved machining strategies; review setup and machining approaches for safety, efficiency, and job requirements
QUALITY & COMPLIANCE
- Ensure received materials are correct, identified, and properly labeled
- Ensure in-process and final inspection requirements are followed and documented
- Ensure job documentation and quality records are complete and accurate
- Ensure employees are trained and qualified for assigned tasks
- Support internal and customer audits as required
- Ensure labor tracking and job reporting are accurately recorded in
E2 SAFETY & INFRASTRUCTURE
Maintain responsibility for personnel safety and safe operation of milling equipment Enforce PPE, lock-out/tag-out, crane, and Hi-Lo safety requirements Identify and report safety, equipment, or facility concerns to management Coordinate machine maintenance and tooling crib organization Maintain awareness of calibration requirements for applicable equipment
REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
Advanced blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation Strong leadership, communication, and time management skills Advanced mechanical aptitude High proficiency in CNC milling operations; 3-axis and 5-axis experience preferred High proficiency in machine setup and operation Experience machining and cutting large weldments, including fixturing, distortion control, and machining sequence planning Proficiency with precision measuring equipment (calipers, micrometers, indicators, gage pins) Proficiency with CAM software (WorkNC preferred) Experience with CNC controls including Fanuc, Fidia, and Heidenhain Knowledge of lock-out/tag-out procedures Ability to operate crane and Hi-Lo equipment Intermediate math skills
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Minimum of five years CNC milling experience in a manufacturing environment Demonstrated supervisory or team leadership experience in a machining or manufacturing environment required Aerospace tooling, large-format machining, or precision manufacturing experience strongly preferred What
