Job Description

Tree Crew ForemanPosition Summary We are looking for an experienced, motivated Tree Crew Foreman to lead and manage our tree service crews. This position is responsible for much more than simply overseeing jobsites. The Foreman will play a major role in crew leadership, employee development, production, scheduling, safety, hiring, and overall profitability. The ideal candidate is someone who knows how to get the most out of a crew while also building a positive team environment. We want a leader who earns the respect of the employees working under them, holds people accountable, and helps create a crew that works hard, works safely, and works well together. Knowledge and experience in the tree industry is strongly preferred, but leadership ability, work ethic, organization, and the willingness to learn are equally important. Primary ResponsibilitiesCrew Leadership & Management Lead and manage tree crews on a daily basis. Maximize the productivity and potential of each crew member. Build strong crew camaraderie and promote a healthy, professional work environment. Clearly communicate job expectations and daily production goals. Hold employees accountable for performance, attendance, safety, attitude, and quality of work. Coach and develop employees who need additional training or improvement. Help identify employees with leadership potential and assist in their development. Address crew conflicts and personnel issues before they negatively affect production or morale. Hiring & Employee Management The Foreman will be heavily involved in building and maintaining the right team.

Responsibilities include:

Participating in interviewing and hiring new crew members. Helping evaluate applicants based on attitude, experience, work ethic, and ability. Training and onboarding new employees. Evaluating employee performance. Coaching employees who are struggling or not meeting expectations. Recommending or participating in disciplinary actions when necessary. Participating in decisions involving termination of employees who are not a good fit for the company. Our goal is not simply to fill positions, but to build dependable crews that work well together and consistently produce. Scheduling & Production The Foreman is expected to be actively involved in the job scheduling process.

Responsibilities include:

Working with management and office staff to schedule crews efficiently. Keeping crews productive and minimizing unnecessary downtime. Helping determine appropriate crew sizes and equipment needed for each project. Reviewing upcoming jobs and helping plan the most efficient way to complete them. Monitoring daily and weekly production. Identifying scheduling problems before they affect customers or production. Communicating equipment, staffing, or jobsite issues that could affect the schedule. Helping make adjustments when weather, equipment problems, cancellations, or other issues disrupt the schedule. A major expectation of this position is to keep the crews busy and productive while maintaining quality and safety. Sales & Job Estimating We would like the Foreman to learn and understand the job bidding and estimating process. During slower production periods, this position may transition partially into a sales role to help generate additional work.

Responsibilities may include:

Meeting with potential customers. Looking at tree removal, trimming, cleanup, and related projects. Learning how to properly estimate labor, equipment, disposal, and job difficulty. Preparing or assisting with bids. Following up on potential jobs. Identifying additional work opportunities while crews are already on a customer's property. Helping generate enough work to keep crews consistently scheduled. Jobs personally sold by the Foreman may qualify for sales commissions based on profitability. Safety Safety is one of the most important responsibilities of this position.

The Foreman must:

Maintain a safety-first mindset. Enforce company safety policies and procedures. Conduct or participate in jobsite safety meetings. Recognize hazards before work begins. Make sure employees are using proper PPE and equipment. Ensure equipment is being operated correctly. Stop unsafe work immediately. Help investigate accidents, near misses, or equipment damage. Promote a culture where employees understand that production is important, but never at the expense of safety. Experience with tree removal, trimming, rigging, chainsaws, aerial lifts, chippers, cranes, or other tree-service equipment is a major plus. CDL Requirement A valid CDL is strongly preferred and is considered an important requirement of this position. For the right candidate who does not currently have a CDL, the company may pay the costs associated with obtaining one. Employees receiving company-paid CDL training will be required to sign a one-year employment agreement with the company. Compensation & Incentives This position will include opportunities to earn additional compensation based on performance.

Potential incentives include:

Production bonuses for meeting or exceeding established crew production and profitability goals. Sales commissions on qualifying jobs personally generated or sold. Additional performance incentives may be available based on company and individual results. Bonuses and commissions will be based not simply on revenue, but also on the profitability and successful completion of the work. Qualifications The ideal candidate will have: Strong leadership and people-management skills. Ability to motivate employees while also holding them accountable. Good communication and organizational skills. Strong work ethic and dependable attendance. Ability to make decisions and solve problems in the field. Ability to manage multiple crews, jobs, and changing priorities. Safety-oriented mindset. Valid driver's license with a good driving record. CDL preferred or willingness to obtain one. Tree service, logging, landscaping, construction, heavy equipment, or similar field experience preferred. Knowledge of tree cutting, trimming, rigging, climbing, equipment, or arboriculture is a major plus. Ability and willingness to learn job estimating and sales.
