While we maintain our family-oriented roots, our production floor is home to sophisticated, high-speed manufacturing technology. We are looking for a hands-on leader who can treat our facility like their own and ensure our operations run smoothly. The Role Little Brown Bird Foods is seeking a dependable, hands-on Production Supervisor to support daily manufacturing operations during an assigned production shift. This position is an important frontline leadership role responsible for helping the production team meet daily output, safety, quality, and sanitation expectations. The Production Supervisor will report to the Senior Manager of Operations - Production and will provide direct day-to-day direction to Production Operators and Shift Leads, as assigned. This is a working supervisory position focused on executing the production plan, supporting employees on the floor, and escalating issues promptly when additional leadership support is needed. Key Responsibilities Shift Supervision & Production Support Supervise Production Operators and other assigned employees during production shift. Review the production plan, staffing assignments, priorities, and known issues with senior management before the start of each shift and as directed. Conduct shift start-up meetings with the production team to communicate production targets, safety reminders, quality requirements, staffing assignments, and operational updates. Monitor daily production activity to help ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, and in accordance with standard operating procedures. Support line start-ups, product changeovers, breaks, sanitation activities, and end-of-shift shutdown procedures. Observe production lines and work areas to identify routine issues involving materials, staffing, workflow, equipment performance, or procedural compliance. Adjust employee assignments, within established guidelines, to support coverage and keep the production plan moving. Escalate material shortages, significant downtime, safety concerns, quality concerns, staffing problems, and production interruptions to senior leadership promptly. Complete required shift reports, production paperwork, downtime logs, and other records accurately and on time. Provide clear handoff information to the incoming supervisor or shift leader regarding production status, open items, equipment issues, quality matters, and next-shift priorities. Employee Direction & Development Provide direct, respectful day-to-day direction to production employees. Reinforce expectations for attendance, punctuality, work quality, productivity, safety, sanitation, teamwork, and conduct. Train employees on assigned work areas, standard operating procedures, safety requirements, GMPs, and quality expectations. Provide routine coaching and feedback to help employees improve performance and develop skills. Communicate employee performance concerns, training needs, attendance issues, and disciplinary matters to senior management for guidance and follow-up. Help maintain a respectful, productive, and inclusive work environment in which team members understand expectations and feel comfortable raising concerns. Support onboarding activities for new employees, following the training process and materials established by production leadership. Safety, Quality & Food Safety Promote a safety-first work environment and ensure team members use required personal protective equipment and follow applicable safety procedures. Conduct routine floor observations to identify concerns and take appropriate action within the scope of the role. Immediately report workplace injuries, hazards, and safety concerns to the appropriate leader. Reinforce compliance with GMPs, food-safety procedures, sanitation standards, allergen controls, quality checks, and product-handling requirements. Ensure employees complete required quality checks and production documentation accurately. Help maintain clean, orderly, and inspection-ready production areas throughout the shift. Communication & Cross-Functional Coordination Participate in shift handoffs, team meetings, training sessions, and operational-improvement discussions as requested. Communicate professionally and respectfully with employees, leaders, and cross-functional partners. Continuous Improvement Support implementation of established process improvements, new procedures, new products, equipment changes, and training initiatives. Assist with basic tracking of downtime, waste, throughput, quality deviations, and other shift-level performance information. Follow production leadership's direction regarding improvement projects, corrective actions, and operational priorities. Qualifications and Requirements Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Two or more years of experience in a manufacturing, food production, warehouse, consumer packaged goods, or similar operational environment. Prior experience serving as a team lead, shift lead, trainer, supervisor, or leader. Ability to lead employees respectfully, give clear direction, and hold team members accountable for established standards. Working knowledge of safety practices, sanitation procedures, GMPs, and food-safety requirements, or the ability to learn these requirements quickly. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and make sound day-to-day decisions within established procedures. Basic computer proficiency, including email, spreadsheets, and production-reporting systems. Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse workforce and escalate issues appropriately. Prior supervisory experience in a multi-shift manufacturing environment. Familiarity with basic production metrics, such as throughput, yield, downtime, and waste. Preferred Qualifications Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills. Experience with lean manufacturing, 5S, or continuous-improvement practices. Physical Requirements Ability to work in a food-manufacturing plant environment and move throughout the facility regularly during the workday. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to inspect production lines, equipment, materials, warehouse areas, and workstations. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and occasionally lift or move items up to 25 pounds. Ability to work in environments with varying temperatures, noise levels, and proximity to manufacturing equipment. Ability to wear and comply with all required personal protective equipment and food-safety attire. Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and electronically. Why Join the Nest?
