Position Summary:
Candidates in this position will possess strong leadership skills, attention to detail, the ability to prioritize and multitask, and the ability to delegate tasks efficiently. The yard supervisor is the main point of contact in regard to material coming in and going out of Bell Supply. The yard supervisor will work in tandem with the dispatch office, the sales team and the operations team to ensure efficient and accurate make-up and delivery of material to job sites. The Yard Supervisor reports to the Operations Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
Managing the flow of tickets from the sales team and dispatch office. Prioritizing loads to be made up relative to requested delivery date, material availability, and dispatch plan. Works with purchasing and inventory team to maintain accurate inventory levels Delegate and assign order tickets to yard operators based on skillset to ensure material is made up accurately and efficiently. Prioritize safety of the team and work to ensure that loading and operations are done in compliance with local, state and federal safety requirements and best practices. Coordinate with yard operators and drivers when loading material to ensure it is loaded efficiently and safely, maximizing truck loads while complying with DOT regulations. Develop and maintain a dynamic knowledge of all building material products and warehouse locations within the yard. Take special note of any specialty and non-stock items being delivered to the yard and ensure material is in a safe space, well labeled, and stored properly. Maintain organization standards of the warehouses and the yard. Check-in all inbound deliveries and outbound deliveries for product accuracy and proper loading, while ensuring all paperwork matches and is filed correctly. Assist with and check in walk-in customers when required to make sure they are being helped by a yard operator. Maintain efficient flow and organization in the yard of heavy machinery and vehicles. Relay any truck, forklift and warehouse maintenance issues to the Operation supervisor. Drive innovation and change plans in how we receive, store, ship and manage material in the yard. Be flexible to manage all other daily tasks that may be required. Support the Operations team by helping with dispatch, project management and facility maintenance when required.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position is responsible for overseeing hourly union employees.
Physical Demands:
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee may spend over 4 hours daily standing or walking.
