Job Description
The Nevada Department of Corrections has a vacancy for a Supervisor 1, Prison Industries. This position is located at Northern Nevada Correctional Center Ranch, in Carson City. Incumbents must be able to demonstrate extensive knowledge of horse training techniques used to train wild horses. Qualified candidates must know how to identify and treat minor equine related illness and ailments as well as understand farrier work and perform minor hoof work. Prison Industries Supervisors manage, plan, organize and supervise operations of Prison Industries programs and insure their profitable operation. Incumbents function as managers to train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors, develop policies and procedures and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives. Supervisors, Prison Industries manage, plan, organize, and supervise operation(s) of Prison Industries' program(s) and ensure profitable operation. Three or more years of applicable experience as described in the job duties with a minimum of one-year supervisory experience preferred and graduation for high school or equivalent education. Supervise the performance of inmates in manufacturing goods or providing services. Maintain adequate levels of raw materials. Review and interpret operational financial statements, develop and maintain shipping strategies, and determine and prepare product cost and price estimates. Participate in planning and designing products and services, develop and participate in product marketing strategies, and ensure profitable and efficient program operations. Provide technical expertise regarding cost, efficient material usage, quality standards, and production capabilities. Review technical blueprints and specifications to determine component requirements. Explain and market services and goods available. Assist in the preparation of marketing materials. Investigate, review, and submit bid opportunities. Establish and monitor work safety and security procedures. Prepare and maintain accounting records and reports. Monitor cost accounting records and monitor and collect past due receivables. Plan and monitor the manufacturing of goods, develop production schedules, arrange materials, and ensure proper staffing levels. Inspect work in progress and finished goods to ensure products are manufactured according to production schedules and quality standards. Perform related duties as assigned.
