Job Title:
Detailing Supervisor Job Description The Detailing Supervisor drafts and details structural drawings, supports fabrication and shop operations, and oversees multiple projects to ensure accurate, timely delivery of structural steel and joist detailing work. This role combines hands-on detailing expertise with supervisory responsibilities, coordinating closely with engineering, production, and customers while managing project schedules and priorities. Responsibilities Draft and detail accurate structural drawings for steel structures and joists using AutoCAD and related tools. Support fabrication and shop operations by providing clear, complete, and timely detailing documents and instructions. Supervise and lead detailing staff, providing guidance, direction, and support on multiple concurrent projects. Coordinate with engineering teams to clarify design requirements, specifications, and changes. Collaborate with production personnel to ensure drawings align with fabrication capabilities and shop processes. Communicate with customers to address questions, clarify requirements, and resolve issues related to structural detailing. Manage project schedules, priorities, and workloads across multiple projects to meet deadlines and quality standards. Prepare and review bills of materials to ensure accuracy and completeness for fabrication and purchasing. Handle and respond to requests for information (RFIs) related to structural steel and joist detailing. Oversee multi-project management activities, ensuring resources are allocated effectively and work is sequenced efficiently. Support the implementation and use of scheduling tools and software to track project progress and deadlines. Ensure detailing work complies with relevant design specifications, steel structure and joist standards, and customer requirements. Provide training and mentorship to team members on detailing practices, steel joist specifications, and scheduling tools. Contribute to continuous improvement of detailing processes, documentation standards, and coordination practices between departments. Essential Skills At least 5+ years of structural steel, joist, or related detailing experience. A minimum of 2 years of people and project supervisory experience. Strong proficiency with AutoCAD, with at least 5+ years of hands-on experience. Demonstrated experience coordinating with engineering, production, and customers on structural projects. Proven ability to manage project schedules and priorities across multiple projects. Solid understanding of structural steel and joist detailing practices. Experience with drafting, design, and fabrication for steel structures. Ability to prepare and interpret bills of materials for structural steel and joists. Competence in handling RFIs and resolving technical questions related to detailing. Strong multi-project management skills, including planning, organizing, and tracking progress. Effective supervisory skills, including team leadership, task delegation, and performance oversight. Excellent communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional coordination. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with structural steel is a significant plus. Familiarity with steel joist specifications and related standards. Experience using scheduling tools and software for project management. Ability and willingness to learn and be trained on detailing methods, steel joist specifications, and new scheduling tools and software. Experience in design and drafting for steel structures and joists. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in drawings and documentation. Organizational skills to manage documentation, schedules, and multiple project demands. Problem-solving mindset with the ability to address design and fabrication challenges. Interest in continuous improvement of detailing processes and coordination practices. Work Environment The role operates in both office and shop environments, providing a mix of desk-based detailing work and on-site interaction with fabrication and production teams. You will work with AutoCAD, scheduling tools, and other drafting and project management software in the office, while collaborating directly with shop personnel to ensure drawings align with real-world fabrication processes. The environment supports teamwork and cross-functional coordination, with opportunities to see designs move from drawings to completed steel structures. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fernley, NV. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
