GENERAL SUMMARY
Plans and coordinates manufacturing activities through production, engineering, purchasing, quality, tooling, and finance to ensure efficient production of new stamping die tooling with the best material usage, quality levels, and service that exceed the customer's expectations. Responsible for ensuring all key measures are met from plant operations. Manage and promote matters related to safety, health, environmental, labour control, equipment, material. and process. This position could have 6-10 direct reports and up to 50 indirect.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS A.
Lead, plan, and manage new stamping die tooling construction activities and related functions including production, engineering, purchasing, quality, and finance to ensure safety and quality and to meet and exceed customer and company requirements for assigned facility. 1. Lead new die manufacturing supervision in utilizing total quality production system (TQPS) techniques to standardize processes/methods and to identify new die tooling manufacturing problems and raw materials/components supply and eliminate waste. 2. Develop and monitor Lean activities and new tool die manufacturing continuous improvement system. 3. Monitor new stamping die tooling and engineering change timelines. 4. Maintain contact with interdepartmental managers to provide feedback when dealing with process or material changes. 5. Hold daily staff meetings to communicate daily objectives and discuss successes, failures, and countermeasure activity. 6. Ensure NASG philosophies, systems. and processes are always being followed. 7. Maintain master departmental capacity (MPC) plans for the facility for accurate timing planning driving overall sales and budget planning. B. Structure and implement tech center policies and procedures to ensure safe and efficient operation of the company and its associates. 2. Ensure alignment of tech center policies and procedures, including associate handbook, with corporate policies and procedures. 3. Manage tech center practices and procedures in compliance with company and industry standards (e.g., IATF 16949 and
ISO14001
). C. Lead development and management of annual plan, budget. key measures, operating efficiency, and cost control. 1. Develop an annual plan and budget for tech center aligned with corporate goals as the foundation to keep the tech center in a safe, quality conscious, and efficient upward trend. 2. Administer annual plan that incorporates safety, quality, productivity, cost reduction, and associate morale. 3. Ensure plant goals are met and kept on track. 4. Maintain direct and indirect labour budgets while meeting quality and order fill requirements. 5. Review and track posted daily, weekly, and monthly goals (including key measure targets and results), spot potential problems, and lead in formulating and implementing short-term and long-term countermeasures and solutions. 6. Report out monthly reports with targets. Conduct monthly management review meetings. 7. Lead management discussions and planning session to help formulate cost reduction, waste reduction, product improvement, and problem-solving activities, and present operational performance daily/weekly. D. Act as key contact for customers. 1. Conduct tech center tours and host customer meetings as required. 2. Ensure all parts are made to customer requirements in accordance with company policy. E. Manage and direct staff in assigned new die tool Manufacturing group with a focus on equipment, processes, human resource allocation, cost management, setting priorities, removing roadblocks, and leading through problem identification and resolution, and implementation of short- and long-term corrective actions to New Die tooling manufacturing problems. 1. Assign new die tooling build staff to support all assigned projects on time and budget with accepted quality. 2. Lead New die tooling build staff in activities to meet and improve standard costs of operation both in material and output; minimize downtime; always maintain good 5S; reduce cost of quality internal/external failure. 3. Develop and maintain positive associate relations centered on mutual trust, dignity, respect, fairness, consistency, two-way communication, teamwork, and harmony. 4. Provide direction and motivation to associates emphasizing quality, efficiency, productivity, cost reduction, safety and health, and morale. 5. Ensure further development of associates through performance evaluation, development of training plans, feedback, coaching, and cascade training. Update associate training matrix and schedule any needed training. 6. Conduct monthly meetings with associates to communicate state of business.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
Experience:
Ten years of operational leadership experience in a tech center I new tool & die shop environment • Required experience of New tool & die construction must be of modern technology (preferably in the last 10 years) Minimum of 10-15 years of relevant work experience in manufacturing environment, preferably in a die shop as a manager or in a new build die tooling/stamping environment of related components (e.g., sealing, emissions, ride control, NVH, chassis, heat shields, and other miscellaneous components). 5 years of experience in a senior leadership role and be able to confidently report out and close monthly books. Must be familiar with P&L statements, can complete a detailed income statement and balance sheet and accurately report on items to upper management.
Education:
Relevant post-secondary education preferred, but relevant work experience in lieu of post-secondary education is acceptable.
Personal/Technical Skills:
Knowledge of design, automation, robotics, and/or manufacturing processes relating to automotive stamping. Practical experience applying lean principles in an automotive environment. Experience with automotive quality systems and processes. Knowledge of material types, specifications, and characteristics used in automotive stampings. Possess excellent problem solving and people skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. North American Stamping Group is a drug-free and smoke-free workplace.
