A Production Shift Supervisor oversees employees working on multiple production lines. Assigns tasks and adjusts workloads to meet production goals, schedules and monitors training and assess progress of the employees, monitors production quality and uses leadership skills to solve problems with employees.
The Production Shift Supervisor is responsible for leading and overseeing Production Team Members within their department to achieve daily production and quality goals while ensuring a safe, efficient, and professional work environment. The role involves receiving directives from the Production Manager or, in their absence, the Plant Manager, and ensuring all tasks are completed to meet customer requirements, service center needs, safety standards, and company policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership Monitor and enhance production processes to maximize efficiency, productivity, and throughput. Provide clear direction to Production Team Members while executing the work schedules, assignments, and production sequences assigned by the Production Manager to meet daily/weekly production targets. Monitor and evaluate staff performance to ensure it meets company standards. Enforce company policies and procedures consistently, initiating corrective actions when necessary. Production Management Interpret specifications and job orders to provide guidance to their direct reports. Analyze work orders, production schedules, and other reports to create production estimates and schedule their reports accordingly. Ensure accurate work order processing within the Company ERP system. Maintains a holistic perspective of the broader Company operations in order to provide better support to the Company's overall success. Quality Control Ensure all products meet or exceed customer quality standards through regular in-process inspections and continuous improvement efforts. Work Environment Maintenance Promote and maintain a positive, professional, and safe work environment. Ensure the shop's cleanliness and maintenance meet company expectations. Maintain and repair equipment, and coordinate with third party repair services as needed. Training & Development Ensure new hires receive adequate training for their roles. Conduct employee reviews and set goals and expectations. Inventory Control Coordinate with the Production Manager to ensure that inventory levels of manufactured parts are adequate to department operations, preventing operational delays.
Qualifications:
Required:
High school diploma or GED. Bachelor's Degree in related fields preferred. 2+ years of Production Supervision. Strong proven problem-solving abilities with a focus on leading by example. Previous experience with manufacturing machinery, including maintenance.
Optional:
Industrial Sewing Machine, MIG Welder, Brake/Shear, etc.
Required:
Forklift Experience (Sit-Down) Previous experience with ERP systems. The ability to learn the company ERP system - NetSuite. Strong commitment to quality, accuracy, and safety. Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic arithmetic with fractions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Expertise in relevant production processes. Ability to work overtime as needed to facilitate business needs.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to individually lift, pull, and drag materials weighing up to 75 lbs. Ability to bend, twist, lift, stand, sit, kneel, and perform repetitive movements for up to 8 hours. Ability to climb ladders and work from lifts with no range of motion limitations.
Work Environment:
A hands-on role that involves a combination of production and administrative tasks. Working on the shop floor and at a computer. The computer station is located on the floor, bringing the supervisor close to their reports. Working on site and full-time are essential functions of the position.
