  • Supervise and coordinate daily machine shop activities, including CNC machining, manual machining, setup, tooling, inspection, material flow, and job prioritization.
  • Assign work to machinists, handwork assemblers, and support staff based on production schedules, skill levels, machine availability, and customer deadlines.
  • Monitor production progress throughout the shift and adjust resources or workflow as needed to meet delivery, quality, and productivity targets.
  • Ensure employees follow safe work practices, company policies, lockout/tagout procedures, personal protective equipment requirements, and housekeeping standards.
  • Review job travelers, blueprints, work instructions, setup sheets, inspection requirements, and specifications to ensure jobs are understood before production begins.
  • Support troubleshooting of machining issues, tooling problems, machine downtime, fixture concerns, dimensional nonconformances, and process inefficiencies.
  • Verify that first-piece, in-process, and final inspections are completed according to quality requirements and customer specifications.
  • Train, coach, and mentor machine shop employees in proper setup practices, machining methods, quality expectations, safety procedures, and shop standards.
  • Coordinate with production planning, engineering, quality, maintenance, purchasing, and management to resolve issues and keep jobs moving through the shop.
  • Maintain accurate production records, labor reporting, scrap documentation, downtime notes, and shift handoff information.
  • Promote continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to reduce setup time, improve machine utilization, reduce rework, minimize waste, and improve workflow.
  • Participate in employee performance discussions, attendance tracking, corrective action recommendations, and staffing needs as appropriate.
