Painter ForemanJOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Painter Foreman is directly supervised by the General Foreman and is responsible for supervising District painting/finishing operations for maintenance and small projects. The Painter Foreman plans, assigns, and inspects shop and field work to ensure safe, durable, and high-quality finishes with minimal disruption to instruction.Bargaining Unit:

12-months (year-round)ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Follow District safety policies and OSHA requirements; lead job hazard analyses; enforce PPE, lockout/tagout, and permit procedures.
- Triage, assign, and track work in the District-designated maintenance work order & asset management system (CMMS) ; review notes, labor, and materials for completeness and accuracy.
- Develop daily/weekly schedules; coordinate outages/shutdowns and access with building administrators and other trades; communicate status and impacts.
- Inspect in-progress and completed work for quality, code, and manufacturer compliance; close out work orders with documentation and photos as required.
- Manage materials, inventory, and special-order items; prepare requisitions and verify deliveries; maintain shop equipment and tools.
- Approve time, verify labor distribution, and maintain records; provide coaching, direction, and feedback to staff.
- Coordinate vendor activities; ensure safety compliance and site protection; verify punch list completion.
- Respond to urgent/emergency requests and after-hours call-outs; stabilize hazards and prioritize follow-up work.
- Keep the General Foreman and Coordinating Foreman informed; escalate risks and schedule conflicts promptly.
Trade-Specific:
- Plan and supervise surface preparation, priming, and finishing for interior/exterior substrates (walls, ceilings, doors/frames, trim, metal/wood/masonry) using brush, roller, and spray.
- Direct drywall finishing/taping, patching, and skim coating to match existing textures and finishes; ensure paint ready surfaces.
- Oversee wood finishing/refinishing (strip, seal, stain, varnish); manage specialty coatings (e.g., epoxy, low VOC) per manufacturer instructions.
- Coordinate limited glazing tasks (glass replacement, glazing stops/compounds) with Carpentry/Glazing as required; protect adjacent finishes.
- Plan and inspect markings/striping as directed; ensure surface prep, layout, and protection are in place.
- Review work orders, sketches, and manufacturer instructions; estimate materials and stage work in advance.
EDUCATION REQUIRED
High school diploma orGED. CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE REQUIRED
Journeyman painter status via recognized apprenticeship or equivalent training/experience; union eligibility/membership per CBA classification. Valid driver's license; insurable under District policy. Maintain valid Act 34/114/151 clearances; renew every five (5) years; employee-paid.YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
Varies (completion of apprenticeship or equivalent experience satisfies skill requirement; prior lead/supervisory experience preferred).KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- Proficient in assigning and documenting work in a CMMS; maintains accurate digital and physical records.
- Plans and sequences multi-trade work; organizes resources to achieve results.
- Applies relevant codes, standards, and manufacturer instructions to carpentry work; conducts quality inspections.
- Communicates clearly and professionally with building staff (e.g., custodians, teachers) and administrative staff (e.g., foremen, principals, directors).
- Manages competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment; leads, coaches, and mentors personnel.
- Enthusiastic about advancing student achievement in an urban public school district.
