Job Description
Position Title:
Valve Shop Supervisor
Position summary:
Direct, lead and supervise hourly team members in tank car valve repair activities.
Tasks:
- Schedules work on cars to meet customer commitments.
- Monitors and manages shop efficiency.
- Writes supplemental work sheets to charge the customer appropriately for un-estimated work.
- Performs in-process inspection on all work performed prior to valves and cars leaving the department.
- Holds daily departmental safety, quality, and production meetings. Ensures compliance with safety, environmental, and health policies, procedures, and work instructions.
- Uses knowledge of production methods and procedures and the capabilities of machines and equipment to manage the production and quality of inspection, test, and repair activities.
- Manages, mentor, coach, and train team members.
- Participates in root-cause investigations, and corrective and preventative actions to prevent recurrence.
Requirements/Experience - Bachelor's Degree in engineering principle preferred.
- Knowledge of the Federal Railroad Administration's regulations governing the inspection and test of rail cars, and the Association of American Railroads Interchange Rules.
- Ability to read prints and drawings, including weld and nondestructive testing symbols.
- Must understand basic valve inspection, disassembly and test methods common with process valves
- Preferably 10 years of rail car inspection, test, and repair experience.
- Past supervisory / management experience a must.
Working Conditions:
- Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment.
- Exposure to elements: hot / cold
- Lifting up to 50 pounds or more to accomplish work tasks
- long periods of standing; walking, bending, stooping, climbing, twisting, and entering into confined spaces and elevated surfaces.
- Working in this environment requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, work boots and the ability to wear a respirator
