Job Description

Miscellaneous and Structural Steel Fabrication Shop Assistant Foreman We are seeking an experienced and leadership-driven Shop Assistant Foreman to oversee our structural and miscellaneous steel fabrication shop . In this role, you will lead a team of fabricators and welders, ensuring that projects—ranging from structural beams and columns to miscellaneous stairs, railings, and ladders—are completed safely, accurately, on time, and within budget. The ideal candidate possesses strong blueprint reading skills, deep knowledge of AWS welding standards, and a proven track record of managing shop floor production and personnel.
Key Responsibilities Production Management:
Plan, coordinate, and direct the daily shop operations to meet project schedules and delivery deadlines.
Team Leadership:
Supervise, mentor, and allocate work to fabricators, welders, and material handlers.
Blueprint Reading:
Interpret structural fabrication drawings, shop drawings, and weld symbols accurately to guide the production team.
Quality Control:
Inspect finished work to ensure strict compliance with project specifications, AISC standards, and AWS welding codes.
Safety Enforcement:
Maintain a safe working environment by enforcing all OSHA regulations, PPE requirements, and shop safety policies.
Material & Equipment Oversight:
Monitor material inventory, track consumables, and ensure all shop machinery (saws, ironworkers, CNC equipment, welders, overhead cranes) is properly maintained.
Problem Solving:
Resolve fabrication issues and discrepancies on the shop floor quickly to minimize downtime and material waste
Qualifications & Skills Experience:
Minimum of 5+ years of experience in structural and miscellaneous steel fabrication, with at least 2-3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
Technical Skills:
Proficient in reading detailed shop drawings, blueprints, and weld symbols. Strong understanding of steel fitting, layout, and welding processes (MIG, TIG, Flux-Core).
Equipment Knowledge:
Familiarity with operating and troubleshooting overhead cranes, forklifts, ironworkers, band saws, and plasma tables.
Leadership:
Excellent communication, time management, and conflict-resolution skills.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 lbs in a fast-paced, non-climate-controlled shop environment. Bilingual a plus Health, life, dental and vision insurance. PTO after 90 days Monday - Friday 7:00 to 3:30
