Job Description

Title:
Press Break Operator Job Summary - Performs machine set up and advanced production activities on the press brake. Russel Metals is one of the largest metals distribution companies in North America, with a growing focus on value-added processing. It carries on business in three segments: metals service centers, energy field stores and steel distributors. Its network of metals service centers carries an extensive line of metal products in a wide range of sizes, shapes and specifications, including carbon hot rolled and cold finished steel, pipe and tubular products, stainless steel, aluminum and other non-ferrous specialty metals. Its energy field stores carry a specialized product line focused on the needs of energy industry customers. Its steel distributors operations act as master distributors selling steel in large volumes to other steel service centers and large equipment manufacturers mainly on an "as is" basis. JMS is a part of the Russel Metals family of companies.
Essential Functions:
  • Understands and follows all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Reviews prints, work orders, tooling instructions and other written specifications
  • Tests and adjusts machine controls and aligns tool position such as dies, gauges, guides and holding devices
  • Positions work pieces for processing
  • Uses measuring instruments and hand tools to ensure proper clearances, dimensions and specified tolerances for work pieces
  • Adjusts controls to set speed, depth and feed rate and to position tools in relation to work pieces
  • Troubleshoots machine or equipment problem to determine cause
  • Examines finished work pieces for conformance to quality standards
  • Records information such as number of work pieces processed, tested, machine readings and dates and times of product production
  • Stacks and bands material for shipment
  • Pull material from inventory
  • Mark identification on material/work pieces before processing
  • Mark material after processing; store material for additional processing and/or shipping
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
  • Basic reading and writing comprehension in English (to read instructions, tickets, safety and policies manuals)
  • Basic measuring skills to read and convert English and Metric systems
  • Basic arithmetic skills to calculate and convert decimals to fractions
  • Basic knowledge in understanding drawings and calculate correct circumference of material
  • Minimum one (1) year experience as machine operator
