Job Description

JACO ENGINEERING
Precision Machining for the Aerospace & Defense Industries — Anaheim, California Production Planner — Manufacturing Engineering Job Routers & Planning Packages
  • AS9100 Aerospace
  • Will Train the Right Candidate
  • Full Time, On-Site (Anaheim, CA) Full position title: Manufacturing Engineer — Production Planner
POSITION SUMMARY
Jaco Engineering is an established Anaheim precision machine shop producing close-tolerance machined components for the U.S. aerospace and defense industries. We are well established, have strong market growth, and have a rare opening to expand our operations. We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer — Production Planner to join our Production Planning team. This is the job that decides whether a part runs clean or fights us on the floor. You are the focal point for making sure that every drawing, model, specification, program, fixture, cutter, and inspection plan is gathered, reviewed, documented, and approved before a job is released to production. You will run the planning review with Quality, Production, and Programming, capture what that team decides, and turn it into a complete, written manufacturing plan and Job Router package. This is a position we are willing to train the right person for. If you have an education in an industrial or manufacturing discipline, or real exposure to a machine shop, this role may be a fit.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as the focal point for production planning — no job goes to the floor until the planning, documentation, resources, and reviews are complete and approved. Review new customer contracts and purchase orders and their fulfillment requirements, working both independently and as part of the Planning Review team. Gather all customer-furnished data for a new order: 2D drawings, 3D models, parts lists, specifications, and work instructions. Research prior and similar orders and pull the existing planning documents, CNC programs, setup sheets, shop sketches, work instructions, and inspection plans needed to plan the new order. Review prior-order documentation for required changes and incorporate those revisions into the new planning package. Convene and facilitate the Planning Committee review with Quality, Production, and Programming to determine the best machining methods, sequences, and tooling requirements for the part. Document those meetings — record decisions, action items, and approvals, and organize the resulting documentation from every department into a single controlled package. Formalize the manufacturing steps into a written manufacturing plan, built from Manufacturing, Programming, and Quality Control input. Generate the complete Job Router / Planning package, including the required CNC programs, material, machines, fixtures, cutting tools, inspection tooling, shop sketches, inspection plans, and anything else needed to realize production. Act as facilitator and project manager for the planning process — confirm every element is covered, that a proper Planning Committee review was conducted, and that all required documentation and approval steps are complete. Review completed orders and close them out: update documentation, CAD and CNC programs, and shop travelers so that every change made in production is captured for the next run. Manage, organize, inventory, and monitor shop tooling, fixtures, and cutters, including storage and accountability. Ensure shop floor documentation and machine G-code programs are downloaded, correctly named, backed up, retained, and purged on schedule. Apply lean manufacturing principles to streamline workflow, reduce waste, and improve efficiency across the manufacturing areas. Coordinate process engineering activities, including CAM programming support, GD&T application, and production planning. Support compliance with AS9100 aerospace quality standards and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Collaborate with cross-functional teams on mechanical design modifications, tooling development, CNC machining processes, and equipment upgrades. Support the management team with other duties as assigned in a positive, team-oriented manner.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to read and interpret precision machined part drawings — both 2D paper engineering drawings ("prints") and 3D CAD models, including interrogating a model for dimensions and features. Working understanding of GD&T geometric tolerancing symbology per
ANSI/ASME Y14
as applied to precision machined parts. Familiarity with bills of material (BOM), parts lists, and manufacturing specifications. Exposure to a machine shop environment and general machine shop best practices — through actual work experience, formal education, or both. Strong documentation and organizational discipline. Much of this job is making sure the right document, at the right revision, is in the right package. Ability to work independently and within a team as a facilitator and project manager, driving the planning process and review to completion and confirming every approval step is documented. Ability to multi-task and meet strict deadlines. Proficiency with office applications required to perform the job: MS Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, CAD viewing software, and PDF scanning. Basic functional skills with CAD/CAM applications — reading and interpreting models and drawings, and creating simple shop-aid sketches and basic tooling models. Mechanical knowledge related to tooling, CNC machining, and shop equipment. Functional English — able to speak, read, and write English well enough to interpret drawings, specifications, and written procedures and to document work clearly. U.S. Citizen or U.S. Person as defined under ITAR (22 CFR 120.62) — required for access to controlled technical data on U.S. Government defense contracts. We will train the right candidate. If you bring the drawing literacy, the shop exposure, and the organizational discipline, we will teach you our planning process, our documentation system, and our customers' requirements. Degree candidates and recent graduates in a manufacturing discipline are encouraged to apply.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree, or active degree candidate, in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Highly desired. Three (3) or more years in production planning, manufacturing engineering, process engineering, or a precision machine shop environment. Hands-on machine shop or CNC background — an understanding of how parts are held, cut, and how they move in process. Experience in an AS9100-certified aerospace or defense machine shop, or with
ISO 9001
compliance. Background in lean manufacturing methodologies and continuous improvement processes. Working familiarity with CAD/CAM software such as SOLIDWORKS, CATIA, Mastercam, or Fusion. Familiarity with first article inspection requirements and inspection planning for aerospace parts. Experience with tooling design, fixture development, or factory automation systems.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & PRE-EMPLOYMENT
Ability to move about the shop floor, machine areas, and tool crib throughout the shift. Ability to work in a noisy shop environment. Ability to pass pre-employment physical screening and a background check. Employment references may be requested to confirm prior employers and length of employment.
SCHEDULE, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Full-time, permanent, first-shift position in a clean, air-conditioned facility. Monday through Thursday, four ten-hour days (40 hours), with the possibility of overtime on Fridays. Exact schedule to be negotiated. Competitive pay based on experience, education, and demonstrated planning and documentation ability. Company-paid medical and dental coverage. Paid time off, including vacation and sick days. 401(k) retirement plan and Flexible Spending Plan. Stable, long-established and growing shop with a steady aerospace and defense customer base.

To be considered, please reply with a current resume detailing your work history, your education, any machine shop or manufacturing exposure you have, the CAD/CAM and office software you have used, a contact number, and your pay expectations.
