For the Production Team at Refuge, our mission is to convey our worship services with clarity and excellence, creating an engaging atmosphere that allows our congregation and the world to freely worship Jesus. Job Description Refuge is seeking a part-time Audio & Production Specialist to support the technical execution of our weekly worship services, special events, weddings, memorials, and other ministry gatherings. The primary responsibility of this position is providing consistent production coverage for Sunday morning services, Wednesday night services, and Saturday night services. This is a hands-on production role with a strong emphasis on live audio mixing. The ideal candidate is a confident audio engineer who understands how to create a clear, musical, and engaging contemporary worship mix while also working across presentation, lighting, livestream, and video systems. The Audio & Production Specialist reports to the Production Director and works closely with the Worship Director, pastors, musicians, staff, and Production Team volunteers to ensure services and events are technically prepared and executed with clarity and excellence. Key Responsibilities
- Mix front-of-house audio for Sunday morning, Wednesday night, Saturday night, and other assigned services and events.
- Prepare for and conduct sound checks with worship teams, pastors, speakers, and guest musicians.
- Mix and manage livestream audio for weekly services and special events.
- Operate Behringer WING and X32 digital mixing consoles for live and broadcast audio.
- Prepare console scenes, routing, monitor mixes, microphones, wireless systems, playback sources, and other audio elements required for services.
- Run ProPresenter 7 for worship lyrics, sermon slides, videos, announcements, and in-service graphics.
- Prepare and install sermon slides, worship lyrics, presentation content, videos, and other service media.
- Create, modify, and operate lighting scenes using Lightkey.
- Operate livestream and video-production systems, including Blackmagic ATEM video switching, camera feeds, source management, and broadcast monitoring.
- Monitor technical systems throughout services and respond quickly to production issues as they arise.
- Perform pre-service system checks to ensure audio, lighting, presentation, video, and livestream systems are production-ready.
- Prepare stages and production environments, including microphones, stands, cables, direct boxes, monitors, playback systems, and related equipment.
- Serve as the primary technical operator for assigned weddings, memorials, rehearsals, ministry gatherings, and special events.
- Work alongside Production Team volunteers and provide practical support during live services and events.
- Fill Production Team positions when additional operational coverage is needed.
- Maintain the organization and readiness of the stage, sound booth, backstage areas, equipment, and production workspaces.
- Assist with routine equipment testing, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, software updates, and production projects.
- Follow production standards, workflows, schedules, and direction established by the Production Director.
- Collaborate with the Production Director, Worship Director, worship teams, pastors, staff, and volunteers to prepare and execute services effectively.
- Attend weekly Wednesday staff and leadership meetings, along with appropriate rehearsals, pre-service meetings, and production meetings. Who You Are
- Your primary responsibility is providing reliable technical-production coverage for Sunday mornings, Wednesday nights, and Saturday nights.
- You understand that Production is ministry and that technology should help remove distractions, communicate clearly, and create an environment where people can freely worship Jesus.
- You are a skilled live audio engineer with 3+ years of experience mixing live sound; contemporary worship or church-production experience is strongly preferred.
- You have a solid understanding of signal flow, gain structure, EQ, dynamics, compression, gating, microphones, wireless systems, monitors, routing, bussing, effects, and live troubleshooting.
- You are comfortable operating professional digital audio consoles; familiarity with Behringer WING and X32 consoles is strongly preferred.
- You are familiar with ProPresenter 7, Lightkey, Blackmagic ATEM, livestream production, lighting, and video systems, or possess the technical aptitude to quickly develop proficiency in these areas.
- You are comfortable working in Mac-based production environments and learning new production software and systems.
- You are organized, prepared, reliable, and communicate clearly with staff, volunteers, musicians, and ministry leaders.
- You remain calm under pressure and approach technical challenges with a solutions-oriented mindset.
- You take initiative, recognize production needs, and follow through on assigned responsibilities.
- You are flexible when service plans, schedules, or technical requirements change.
- You receive coaching and feedback well and demonstrate a willingness to continue learning and developing.
- You demonstrate humility, integrity, kindness, accountability, and a strong work ethic.
- You have a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and a desire to serve the mission, ministries, and church family of Refuge Calvary Chapel.
What Success Looks Like The Audio & Production Specialist helps create a production environment in which pastors, worship teams, volunteers, and ministry leaders can focus on ministry because the technical elements of each service have been prepared and executed with clarity, consistency, and excellence.
