Job Description
Production Assistant | Manufacturing at Bowlus Production Assistant | Manufacturing at Bowlus in Port Hueneme, California Posted in about 4 hours ago.
Type:
full-time Bowlus is a luxury travel trailer manufacturer with headquarters in Oxnard, CA and a showroom in Santa Barbara, CA. Bowlus embodies the ultimate performance, technology, and luxury in the perfect adventure-ready RV. Bowlus has an iconic heritage of innovation as the original aluminum travel trailer, and Bowlus is the top choice for modern adventurers, land travelers, and camping enthusiasts. We are seeking a highly motivated and adaptable Production Assistant to work directly with our Production Manager, who is responsible for running the entire Bowlus production facility. You will start as the assistant to the Production Manager, shadowing them through the day and picking up tasks as they are handed to you, and your responsibilities will grow over time as you learn the different aspects of production at Bowlus. This position is 100% on site at our Oxnard, CA facility, with no opportunity for remote work. This is not a traditional job with a fixed set of roles and responsibilities, and it is not a job you can learn from a manual. Your day will rarely look the same twice. The role requires someone who has no problem flexing between taking out the garbage and sweeping the floors in the morning, and helping the Production Manager do advanced planning for people, materials, and products in the afternoon. You will be given a tremendous amount of responsibility very early on, and your performance will be monitored closely. The ideal candidate is a recent technical school or two-year college graduate with hands-on experience using hand tools, and a deep excitement about learning how to run a manufacturing environment. No prior formal experience is required. What is required is a genuine appetite for learning: you will be introduced to a large number of new concepts and topics and asked to research and learn them on your own, without supervision, by reading and watching videos as well as by observing other people doing the work. This role is designed to be outgrown. You will learn how an advanced manufacturing facility is run directly from an individual who is a world-class performer in that role, and the intent is that you move up into a higher position at Bowlus as you prove yourself. You will sit in on executive meetings and learn about personnel management, inventory planning, production line management, and production strategy. Which path you grow into will depend on your interests, your aptitude, and the parts of the work you turn out to be strongest at. Responsibilities
- Shadow the Production Manager through the day, take on tasks as they are assigned, and expand your scope as you demonstrate you can own it.
- Handle facility housekeeping, including trash and recycling, bin staging and pickup scheduling, sweeping, and general shop orderliness.
- Coordinate and schedule facility maintenance, including compressors, lighting, HVAC, dock equipment, and general building repair, and verify on site that the work was completed correctly.
- Transport trailers between the Oxnard production facility, the 635 S Rose Ave warehouse, and the Santa Barbara showroom, and reposition trailers within the yard and facility as production and delivery require.
- Serve as a first point of contact for vendors, contractors, and delivery drivers arriving at the facility, receive what they bring, and route them to the right person.
- Run local material pickups and errands for production, including paint, hardware, and consumables.
- Research operational questions as they come up, such as permit requirements, vendor options, or equipment specifications, and come back with a summary of the options.
- Attend executive and production planning meetings, take notes, and follow up on what was assigned.
- Support the Production Manager on planning for people, materials, and products as your understanding of the operation grows.
- Track open items through to completion and report status, so that nothing waits on a single person's memory. Qualifications
- Recent graduate of a technical or trade school, or of a two-year college program. No prior formal work experience required.
- Hands-on experience with hand tools.
- A genuine and demonstrable interest in learning how an advanced manufacturing operation is run.
- Highly successful at self-directed learning, particularly software and business tools. You must be very comfortable using an assortment of software on a computer. If your only computing experience is a cell phone, this is not the right role for you.
- Ability to absorb unfamiliar concepts and skills rapidly and to research them independently, without supervision.
- Valid driver's license and eligibility to be added to the Bowlus company vehicle insurance policy.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including paid overtime that may vary from day to day and week to week depending on company priorities and projects.
- Clear, direct communication with vendors, contractors, and production staff. Bilingual English and Spanish is a plus.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and to work on your feet, moving between indoor shop and outdoor yard conditions throughout the day.

- Dental Insurance
