ABOUT LOGAN STEEL
Logan Steel is a family-owned steel service center and fabrication company located in Meriden, Connecticut. We provide dependable, high-quality steel processing and fabrication services while maintaining a strong commitment to accuracy, safety, and customer service. We are seeking an experienced CAD/CAM Manufacturing Specialist who can develop machine programs, prepare CAD drawings, and support the operation of structural, sheet and plate, and tube laser equipment.
POSITION SUMMARY
The CAD/CAM Manufacturing Specialist converts customer drawings, blueprints, and production requirements into accurate CAD drawings and machine-ready programs. This position supports Voortman structural processing equipment, sheet and plate cutting machinery, and tube laser systems. The successful candidate must be comfortable working in both an office and manufacturing environment and must be able to program, set up, and operate assigned machinery when production needs require it.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Review customer drawings, blueprints, sketches, and work orders to determine materials, dimensions, tolerances, and processing requirements. Create, revise, and maintain accurate CAD drawings for steel parts and fabricated components. Convert CAD drawings into machine-ready files using appropriate CAD/CAM or nesting software. Develop, modify, test, and optimize machine programs for Voortman structural processing equipment, sheet and plate machinery, and tube laser systems. Create efficient nesting layouts to maximize material use and reduce scrap. Verify dimensions, hole locations, cut paths, bend requirements, and part orientation before releasing programs to production. Set up and operate assigned machines when necessary, including loading programs, selecting tooling, and confirming machine settings. Perform first-piece inspections and make programming or setup adjustments when parts do not meet specifications. Use measuring instruments to confirm finished-part dimensions and tolerances. Diagnose programming, software, setup, and machine-operation problems to reduce downtime. Coordinate with machine operators, production supervisors, estimators, engineering personnel, and quality-control staff. Maintain organized records of CAD drawings, machine programs, nesting files, tooling information, revisions, and equipment setups. Follow all company safety procedures and manufacturer operating requirements. Identify opportunities to improve production time, material utilization, accuracy, and workflow.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent. Technical certificate or associate degree in drafting, CAD, machining, manufacturing technology, or a related field. Experience with Voortman structural processing equipment. Experience programming sheet and plate cutting systems and tube lasers. Familiarity with steel grades, material thicknesses, fabrication methods, and nesting practices. Experience working with production-scheduling or manufacturing software.
