Job Description

The Manufacturing Safety Specialist is responsible for promoting a strong culture of safety through employee engagement, cross-functional collaboration, and hands-on involvement throughout the facility. This role is passionate about building employee buy-in, coaching teams, and creating and implementing practical safety solutions that support both operational excellence and employee well-being. This position will work closely with leadership, supervisors, and production employees to ensure compliance with safety regulations while fostering a positive and accountable safety culture.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
Safety Program Development & Compliance Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of company safety programs, policies, and procedures Employee Engagement & Collaboration Build strong working relationships with employees at all levels to create trust and encourage active participation in safety initiatives Promote employee ownership of safety programs through coaching, communication, and involvement in problem-solving efforts Facilitate safety committees, toolbox talks, and employee-led safety improvement activities Partner with supervisors and department leaders to reinforce safe work practices and accountability Encourage a "safety-first" culture while balancing operational efficiency and production goals Act as a visible and approachable safety resource on the production floor Training & Continuous Improvement Coordinate and conduct safety training for new hires and existing employees, including required annual and recurring training Develop engaging training materials and communication tools that improve employee understanding and participation Identify trends, analyze safety metrics, and recommend proactive improvement initiatives Support emergency preparedness planning, drills, and response procedures Assist with ergonomic assessments and injury prevention initiatives Participate in continuous improvement efforts related to workplace safety, housekeeping, and operational processes Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and applicable aerospace industry safety standards and regulations Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments throughout manufacturing operations Assist in maintaining all required safety documentation, training records, and compliance reports Participate in incident investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and follow-up activities Monitor workplace conditions and recommend improvements to reduce or eliminate hazards
Education and Experience Requirements and Skills:
Required:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Technology, or related field preferred Minimum of 5 years of safety experience in a manufacturing environment required Knowledge of OSHA regulations, hazard recognition, incident investigation, and risk mitigation practices Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to gain employee trust and engagement Excellent communication and presentation skills across all organizational levels Ability to influence positive behavioral change through collaboration rather than enforcement alone Hands-on leadership style with the ability to work directly on the manufacturing floor Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt within a growing company environment Problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety management systems Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism Must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation, all essential functions of the job.
Preferred:
Aerospace manufacturing experience strongly preferred Experience working in a fast-paced, growth-oriented manufacturing environment preferred Professional certifications such as OSHA 30, ASP, CSP, or CHST are a plus
Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. This position operates in both a professional office setting and a fast-paced aerospace manufacturing environment. Frequent exposure to machinery, fabrication equipment, welding operations, moving mechanical parts, noise, and varying temperatures. Regular walking throughout the production floor and interaction with employees in operational areas.
