Job Title:
Production Machine Operator Job Description This role focuses on operating and setting up packaging machinery that fills, cuts, seals, and packages sauce packets and containers in a clean, temperature-controlled manufacturing environment. You will handle machine setup and adjustments, monitor production runs, and ensure products meet quality and safety standards while working safely with equipment such as kettles, tanks, and automated packaging lines. Responsibilities Operate automated packaging machinery, including auto packagers, cutters, fillers, and sealing equipment for sauce packets and containers. Set up machinery at the start of production runs, including configuring equipment, adjusting settings, and preparing materials. Add new film and rolls to packaging machinery and ensure proper alignment and tension for consistent packaging quality. Adjust hoses, blades, and other machine components to maintain efficient and accurate operation. Enter and set production orders and runs into the computer system to ensure correct products and quantities are processed. Monitor machines during operation, identify issues, and make real-time adjustments to maintain performance and product quality. Manage and clear machine jams by safely unclogging equipment and restarting production in a timely manner. Inspect products for defects and verify that all packaging meets established quality and safety standards. Operate machinery that fills, cuts, seals, and packages sauces, ensuring correct weights, fills, and seals. Connect hoses to tankers, kettles, and fillers as needed to support mixing and packaging operations. Climb ladders to access the top of machinery and work on mezzanines above equipment as required. Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) at all times, including proper sanitation, handling, and documentation. Handle general production and packaging tasks such as packing finished products, staging materials, and supporting line changeovers. Work collaboratively with other operators, production staff, and support teams to meet production goals and schedules. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area and promptly report any safety or equipment concerns. Essential Skills At least 1 year of experience working in a Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) environment. At least 1 year of packaging experience in a production or manufacturing setting. At least 1 year of manufacturing experience, preferably in food or beverage production. Experience with machine operation or machine operating in a production or packaging environment. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs individually on a regular basis. Comfort working at heights, including climbing ladders and working on mezzanines above machinery, kettles, or tanks. Familiarity with general production and general labor tasks in a manufacturing facility. Ability to operate or learn to operate packaging machinery, including fillers, cutters, and sealers. Basic computer literacy to enter and set production orders and runs into the system. Commitment to following GMP, safety, and cleanliness standards consistently. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bilingual communication skills. Experience with blending or batch mixing processes. Background in operating packaging machinery specifically for food or sauces. Prior experience as a blender, mixer, or similar role in a production environment. Strong attention to detail when inspecting products and monitoring machinery. Ability to troubleshoot basic mechanical issues with packaging equipment. Willingness to work various shifts, including weekdays, evenings, and weekend shifts as scheduled. Why Work Here? The production floor includes packaging machinery, kettles, tanks for mixing, and multiple packaging lines, all within a temperature-controlled environment. It can feel slightly warmer around the cooking kettles and machinery, and the area often has a pleasant food-related aroma. Multiple shifts are available, including weekday and weekend schedules on both day and evening shifts. Employees wear hairnets, beard nets if applicable, non-slip boots, and work pants, and they do not wear jewelry to maintain safety and hygiene. The overall environment is described as a very nice place to work, with modern equipment and a strong focus on cleanliness and safety. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Broadview, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $19.05/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
