General Production Worker Job Description This role supports high-volume production and packaging operations by handling bottles, caps, and containers, performing quality checks, and assisting with batch mixing and housekeeping tasks across multiple lines and areas of the facility. You will work in a clean, temperature-controlled environment, moving between packaging, formulation, and general labor duties as needed while following strict safety and quality standards. Responsibilities Place caps and lids on bottles accurately and efficiently. Bottle products into boxes and cases according to production requirements. Place bottles, caps, and lids into boxes in an organized and consistent manner. Sort and separate finished products by size, type, or order specifications. Pack jugs and bottles into boxes securely to prevent damage during shipping. Lift and stage boxes for palletizing, wrapping, or further processing. Palletize and wrap boxes and containers to prepare them for storage or shipment. Place boxes and products into sealing machinery and monitor proper operation. Perform quality inspections by counting, sorting, and checking product size and consistency. Apply tags and labels to products and boxes accurately to meet order and compliance requirements. Pull cases off the line and stack them neatly on pallets. Wrap and stage cases and boxes in designated areas for shipping or storage. Work on multiple production lines to package products as production needs change. Assist machine operators with batch mixing, including weighing out product liquids and completing prep work for batches. Work with drums and totes safely, including moving, staging, and preparing them for production. Document all orders accurately to support inventory control and order tracking. Lift up to 55 pounds regularly as part of daily production and packaging tasks. Perform housekeeping duties such as sweeping, mopping, taking out trash, and helping maintain a clean work area. Support facility upkeep by salting the parking lot during snowy conditions when requested. Move between packaging and formulation areas as needed, adapting to changing priorities and tasks. Operate safely in a manufacturing environment with a strong focus on organization, cleanliness, and adherence to safety procedures. Essential Skills Ability to perform multiple jobs and work in multiple areas within a manufacturing environment. Experience working in manufacturing or production settings. Ability to lift up to 50-55 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift. Comfort performing repetitive motions and tasks for extended periods. Packaging and general labor experience, including picking, packing, lifting, sorting, counting, wrapping, and staging products. Ability to work on multiple production lines and handle changing tasks. Strong multi-tasking skills and the ability to adapt quickly to new assignments. Attention to detail for counting, labeling, and quality inspections. Reliable use of steel toe boots as part of required safety attire. Commitment to following safety procedures and maintaining a clean, organized work area. Additional Skills & Qualifications Background in chemical, oil, or food manufacturing is a plus. Experience with batch mixing, including weighing liquids and preparing materials, is beneficial. Familiarity with working around drums, totes, and sealing machinery is an advantage. Comfort working in both packaging and formulation environments. Ability to document orders and production information accurately. Flexibility to work overtime, including mandatory Fridays and occasional Saturdays, as needed. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based across modern, temperature-controlled production and warehouse facilities. One location offers a recently remodeled, very clean, and highly organized environment with a smaller workforce and fewer lines, kettles, fillers, and blenders, creating a close-knit team atmosphere. The other location is larger, with more lines and higher production volume, housing a few hundred employees across shifts and offering multiple break rooms and security checkpoints at the front. Operations at both sites include manufacturing products, bottling, staging, and shipping. The chemicals used are not harmful, and safety is a major focus at all locations. Employees typically work 1st shift from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (standard schedule is four 10-hour days Monday through Thursday with mandatory Fridays and optional Saturdays) or 2nd shift from 4:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. Everyone is expected to wear steel toe boots and follow all safety and cleanliness standards. The environment can be fast-paced and occasionally chaotic due to high production volume, and all team members are expected to wear multiple hats, moving between packaging, formulation, and housekeeping tasks as needed. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chicago Heights, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.25 - $18.35/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
