Job Description

Position Summary This is a 2nd shift, 12 hr, 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM position. The Pressman is responsible for the safe, efficient, and accurate operation of Komori printing press equipment to produce high-quality printed materials that meet customer specifications, internal quality standards, and food packaging compliance requirements. This position requires a minimum of 5 years of press operating experience in a quality-driven manufacturing or printing environment . The Pressman must demonstrate strong knowledge of print quality, machine set-up, color consistency, material handling, and production documentation, while supporting compliance with SQF, GMP, food safety, and company quality systems .
Key Responsibilities:
Press Operation and Production Set up, operate, adjust, and monitor printing press equipment to produce quality printed products according to job specifications. Review and verify job tickets, artwork, proofs, substrates, inks, coatings, and other production requirements before starting a job. Ensure jobs are run according to approved standards for print quality, color, registration, die alignment, and overall conformance. Maintain consistent production speeds while preserving quality and minimizing waste. Perform press adjustments during production to correct print, registration, color, or material issues. Monitor press performance and identify mechanical or process problems that could affect product quality or production efficiency. Ensure all required line clearances and job changeover procedures are completed properly. Verify the correct raw materials are being used for each job before and during production. Accurately complete production records, quality checks, downtime records, and any required documentation. Quality Responsibilities Inspect printed product throughout the production run to ensure compliance with customer specifications and internal quality standards. Conduct start-up checks, in-process inspections, roll change inspections, and final verification checks as required. Identify and report print defects such as color variation, hickeys, smudging, misregistration, streaking, poor adhesion, or other nonconformities. Stop production and notify supervision when product quality is compromised or when specifications are not being met. Segregate nonconforming material and follow company procedures for hold, identification, and disposition of suspect product. Work closely with supervisors, quality personnel, and other operators to resolve quality concerns and prevent recurrence. Support continuous improvement efforts related to waste reduction, efficiency, press performance, and product quality. SQF / Food Safety / GMP Responsibilities Follow all SQF policies, GMP requirements, food packaging safety procedures, and plant rules applicable to the production area. Ensure the press area is maintained in a clean and orderly condition to support food packaging safety and housekeeping standards. Verify that only approved materials, inks, coatings, and components are used for production as required by the job ticket and company controls. Follow documented procedures for lot traceability, raw material identification, and production record accuracy. Report any food safety, product safety, contamination, housekeeping, pest activity, foreign material, or GMP concerns immediately to management. Support line clearance and material reconciliation procedures to prevent mix-ups and cross-contamination. Comply with policies related to personal hygiene, handwashing, hair restraints, beard restraints, uniform practices, and prohibited items in production areas. Participate in SQF, GMP, food safety, sanitation, and quality training as required. Assist during internal audits, customer audits, and certification audits as needed. Help ensure product is manufactured in accordance with customer requirements, company quality standards, and food safety expectations. Safety and Housekeeping Operate equipment safely and in accordance with company safety procedures. Use required personal protective equipment at all times. Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area. Report unsafe conditions, equipment issues, and near misses immediately. Support lockout/tagout and other machine safety procedures when required. Qualifications Minimum 5 years of experience as a Pressman in a quality-focused printing or packaging manufacturing environment . Experience operating printing press equipment in a production environment. Strong understanding of print quality standards, press adjustments, color control, registration, and troubleshooting. Experience reviewing and following job tickets, production specifications, and approved samples. Ability to identify defects and make corrections quickly and accurately. Knowledge of safe machine operation and basic preventative care of press equipment. Experience working in an environment with documented quality systems and production controls. SQF, GMP, food safety, or food packaging experience strongly preferred. Ability to read measuring devices, production paperwork, and quality standards. Strong attention to detail, organization, and accountability. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical training in printing, press operation, or related manufacturing field preferred. Minimum 5 years of relevant press operating experience required. Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods of time. Ability to lift, move, and handle press materials and production components within company requirements. Ability to bend, reach, twist, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the shift. Ability to work around moving machinery, ink systems, paper stock, and production equipment safely.
