Job Description

The Battery Innovation Center (BIC) is seeking a qualified Laboratory Technician to join our team. The Advanced Battery Manufacturing Lab Technician and Facilities Specialist conducts, as directed, fabrication and formation of prototype cells, tests prototypes for data collection as well as fabricates prototype components and test fixtures for lab and field testing. Support installation, repairing test equipment and components, and supporting facility maintenance upkeep, services, and safety, where and when necessary. To include working with vendors for landscaping, plumbing, electrical issues pertaining to the upkeep of the building and grounds.
Salary Range:
$60,000-$65,000 annually
Essential Functions/Job Responsibilities:
  • Assembly and testing of prototype cells, from CR2032 coin cells, to pouch and 18650 cells
  • Generating documentation or other technical writing for reports
  • Working with advanced materials (ex. carbons, polymers, metal oxides, electrolytes, and additives)
  • Fabrication of advanced composite electrodes from raw materials (powder processing, mixing, and coating)
  • Interacting directly with our customers in other on-going cell development projects as part of the cell fabrication team of the BIC
  • Working regularly in a <1% humidity dry lab
  • Facility support of electrical, facility grounds, & equipment
  • Inspecting facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, failures, and deficiencies
  • Shipping, procurement, and preparation of materials and equipment
  • Working independently and efficiently to meet deliverables within timeline and budgetary constraints
Education/Experience/Qualifications:
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in engineering or related field is preferred or two year technical degree in engineering or technology .
  • Strong collaboration, prioritization, and communication skills.
  • Fine attention to detail, organizational and documentation abilities required.
  • Ability to be self-directed and take full ownership for work responsibilities with limited oversight.
  • Knowledge of basic maintenance of a building to include small repairs to plumbing, HVAC, Supply ordering, troubleshooting issues, etc.
  • Related experience 0-2 years in Manufacturing and/or Laboratory environment.
  • Experience in a battery research laboratory/manufacturing facility strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of lithium-ion batteries and basic electrochemistry desired.
  • Proficiency with MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Must be able to work in normal office conditions and in a laboratory setting.
  • Must be able to work a minimum of 8 hours per day and be on his/her/their feet for extended periods of time.
  • Dexterity in fine motor skills required.
  • Must be able to service roof equipment (requires climbing 30ft vertical ladder).
Pay:
$60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
