Under limited supervision, develops and implements training activities directed at both employee competencies and technical skills. Collaborates with other functions (e.g., Engineering, Operations, Maintenance) to ensure that course materials reflect current specifications and to obtain information on new processes and equipment. Delivers training and/or visits work locations to confirm effectiveness of technical training programs. Leads technical training improvement projects. Trains and advises less experienced trainers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Develops and implements training activities directed at both employee competencies and technical skills. Delivers training and/or visits work locations to confirm effectiveness of technical training programs. Collaborates with other functions (e.g., Engineering, Operations, Maintenance) to ensure that course materials reflect current specifications and to obtain information on new processes and equipment. Leads projects and programs related to but not limited to technical training purposes. Oversees the quality of delivered training sessions by external vendors, manages vendor relationships, researches potential new vendors and administers the contract process. Plans training courses and sessions and ensures proper budgeting is available for the course materials. Coordinates and tracks relevant certifications, re-certifications, and development programs. Manages own process improvements and training programs for department and works more independently. Prepares and review budget for the technical training function. Conducts training needs assessment to ensure the gap truly is a training issue and not a management issue. Provides support and guidance to lower-level colleagues. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field 5+ years of relevant experience (Process/Control Engineering or Maintenance) A combination of degree and experience can be considered.

Skills and Abilities:

Extensive technical knowledge and experience. Excellent knowledge and familiarity with technical training theories and practices. Proficient in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills. Ability to communicate with internal and external customers on issues of moderate to considerable importance, up to and including senior management. Strong ability to foster and maintain relationships with an ability to work as part of a cross functional team. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to promote and support a service-oriented environment. Strong negotiation skills. Ability to defend position strongly while keenly aware of the need to maximize benefits for all sides. Good project management skills, including identifying and scheduling process steps, determining resources and staff required to successfully complete assigned projects or project steps and reporting on project milestones. Demonstrated ability to apply the planning and checking process to own work output and to assist others with identifying gaps in work results. Strong continuous improvement mindset. Demonstrated ability to train or transfer knowledge to less experienced professionals.
