Job Description

Water Production Worker Reports To:
Manager of Water Distribution Hours:
7:30am to 4:00pm, Monday to Friday Full-time (40 hours / week), non-exempt, union position Position requires availability for weekend work, on-call rotations, emergency call-outs, and work beyond normal operating hours
Compensation:
$31.09 - $46.01 per hour; dependent on water certification level

Role Overview:
At ALP Utilities, the Water Production Worker is responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, and monitoring of municipal water treatment and distribution systems to ensure safe and reliable water service. Performs maintenance on wells, pumps, water mains, hydrants, valves, meters, and treatment plant equipment, while operating construction and maintenance equipment as needed. Responds to service issues and emergencies, maintains facilities and grounds, supports after-hours on-call operations, and ensures compliance with safety standards and licensing requirements. Residency requirement would be roughly 15 minutes from residence to ALP Utilities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair water treatment plant equipment, including pumps, filters, controls, wells, and related systems. Inspect and perform preventive maintenance on equipment and tools to ensure safe and efficient operation. Operate construction and maintenance equipment, including backhoes/loaders and motor vehicles, for system maintenance and repair activities. Install, repair, clean, and maintain water mains, service lines, hydrants, valves, fittings, pumps, and customer water meters. Conduct watermain flushing and operate hydrants and valves while maintaining positive public relations. Respond to customer concerns regarding leaks, pressure loss, and water outages; evaluate conditions and report findings to supervisor. Monitor water storage levels and adjust plant production to meet operational demands. Chlorinate wells, record pumping data, and maintain operational records and data logger information. Assist with infrastructure repairs, including water mains, taps, repair sleeves, and sewer line repairs as needed. Maintain water treatment facilities, well houses, equipment, and grounds through routine maintenance and upkeep. Participate in scheduled on-call rotations for after-hours, weekend, and holiday emergencies. Maintain required certifications and perform all duties in compliance with safety and operational standards.
Minimum Requirement:
Combination of education, training, and experience providing vocational or technical knowledge in water technology or related fields. Ability to obtain a Class D Water Operator License within two years of hire and a Class C Water Operator License within five years. Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of hire. Proficiency in the safe operation and use of a variety of tools and equipment. Ability to perform physically demanding work in a variety of weather and environmental conditions.
Desired Qualifications:
Knowledge of excavation practices and the tools and equipment required to perform safe excavations. Understanding of water chemistry, water hardness, hydraulics, pumps, and basic mathematical calculations. Knowledge of hazard communication standards and workplace safety regulations. Familiarity with OSHA safety procedures and compliance requirements. Ability to identify and troubleshoot issues within the water treatment process and adjust chemical applications as needed. Ability to detect maintenance and equipment issues through visual inspection and operational observation.
