The Assistant Grower supports the Head or Lead Section Grower and plays a hands-on role in producing high-quality plants in a large-scale greenhouse environment. This position assists with daily production activities from planting through finished product while learning modern growing techniques and working with advanced automation systems. This is a full-time position (40+ hours a week) requiring flexibility to work non-traditional hours, including rotating weekends, evenings, and holidays. Candidates need to be able to start ASAP. Essential Functions:
Support daily greenhouse production tasks including planting, irrigation, fertilization, and pest monitoring. Provide plant care throughout the full production cycle by following established crop plans. Maintain greenhouse environmental controls to support optimal plant health. Assist with greenhouse operations such as shipping, production support, and facility upkeep. Apply pesticides and follow integrated pest and disease management practices. Utilize and support automation systems used in production. Assist with training and guidance of seasonal staff. (Winter Season) Support winter product assembly, including wreaths, spruce tip pots, and décor. Other duties as assigned.
Competencies:
Strong desire to learn and follow detailed instructions. Basic knowledge of greenhouse or plant production practices. Effective communication skills and ability to work well within a team. Ability to safely operate production and motorized equipment. Education and/or
Work Experience Requirements:
Minimum of 1 year of horticultural production experience preferred. Post-secondary education in horticulture, agriculture, or a related field preferred. Must have or be willing to obtain a Pesticide Applicator's License.
Work Requirements:
Able and willing to work in varying weather and greenhouse conditions. Able to stand and walk for extended periods. Able to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
