Set Up Technician Job Description The Set Up Technician prepares and configures punch press machines to run production safely and efficiently in a metal fabrication environment. This role includes setting up tools and dies, programming and operating the equipment, and performing quality checks to ensure all stamped parts meet specifications. The technician supports production operators, troubleshoots mechanical issues, and helps maintain consistent product quality throughout each production run. Responsibilities Set up punch press machines with the correct tools, dies, and materials to run production according to job specifications. Program the punch press with the appropriate codes to ensure accurate and efficient operation. Operate punch press machines and monitor their performance during production runs. Verify that stamped parts meet dimensional and quality specifications by comparing parts to prints. Use precision measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers to inspect parts and confirm they meet required tolerances. Work with various materials including coils, foil, and blanks, and adjust machine settings accordingly. Troubleshoot mechanical and operational issues with the punch press and related equipment to minimize downtime. Assist machine operators with setup, operation, and problem-solving when issues arise during production. Conduct random tests and inspections on parts throughout the production cycle to ensure ongoing quality and consistency. Document and communicate any quality or equipment issues to ensure timely resolution and continuous improvement. Maintain a clean and organized work area to support safe and efficient machine operation. Essential Skills At least 1 year of prior machine setup experience in a metal fabrication environment. Hands-on experience setting up machines, preferably punch presses or similar production equipment. Ability to read and understand blueprints and use them to verify parts against specifications. Proficiency in using precision measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers. Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot mechanical and operational issues. Experience performing troubleshooting and quality checks as part of daily work. Capability to program or adjust machine settings using machine codes, or willingness to learn programming with a strong mechanical experience. Ability to work with different materials such as coils, foil, and blanks in a production environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in machining or tool and die work is a significant plus. Previous experience specifically with stamping machines or punch presses is highly desirable. Familiarity with production environments in metal stamping or metal fabrication. Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining consistent product quality. Effective communication skills to support and assist machine operators during production. Willingness to learn and grow into more advanced roles, such as work in a tool and die room. Why Work Here? The work is hands-on and mechanically focused, with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and consistent production output. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mankato, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $40.00/hr.
