The Opportunity As a Press Assistant, you will support a team of press operators to ensure fast, efficient make‑readies and smooth operation of a multicolor flexographic press. You will assist in setup, repair, operation, and routine maintenance of the press, helping maintain production quality, reduce downtime, and keep the press area organized and safe. This role provides hands‑on experience with press equipment and is a key support position for overall printing operations. How You Will Impact Smurfit WestRock Set up, adjust, maintain, and operate a flexographic press in the operator's absence. Review job tickets and select correct material types and quantities. Assist in material changeovers and ensure proper materials are staged for production. Clean, lubricate, and make minor adjustments to support production quality. Clean and maintain press equipment including pans, pumps, and anilox rolls. Remove and mount printing plates as needed. Replenish inks and other raw materials. Notify supervision of required repairs or replacement parts. Move printed and unprinted stock as necessary. Assist press operators with preventative maintenance. Support other printing processes as directed by supervision. Follow established safety procedures and standard operating procedures. Complete required documentation accurately and timely. Assemble print cylinders and gears. Perform and review line clearance. Remove waste from the press area. Collaborate with other departments and maintenance personnel on projects or validations. Perform other duties as assigned to support press operations. What You Need to Succeed High school diploma or GED. Basic computer skills. Ability to perform basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division). Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to pass a basic reading test. Ability to pass color vision and color hue tests. Mechanical aptitude or ability to pass a mechanical test. Reliable attendance. Willingness to work overtime as needed, including during busy periods. Ability to perform all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
