Overview We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Inventory Specialist to join our logistics and supply chain team in Freeport, NY. The Inventory Specialist owns the accuracy and integrity of site inventory across raw materials, ingredients, work-in-process, and finished goods. This role supervises two Inventory Coordinators executing the daily cycle count program and serves as the site's subject-matter expert for inventory reconciliation, root cause analysis, and adjustment control. The Specialist translates count results into corrective actions, working cross-functionally with Warehouse Operations, Production, Planning, and Quality to eliminate recurring sources of inventory error and protect the reliability of data used for planning and customer commitments.
Key Responsibilities:
Cycle Count Program Leadership Supervise, schedule, and develop two Inventory Coordinators performing daily cycle counts Own the cycle count calendar and methodology (ABC-based frequency, count scope, blind vs. verified counts), ensuring full location and SKU coverage per the defined cadence Review daily count results, validate variances, and approve recounts before adjustment Root Cause Analysis & Corrective Action Investigate inventory discrepancies to true root cause (e.g., receiving errors, mispicks, backflush/BOM issues, unreported scrap, location errors, transaction timing) Lead structured problem-solving (5 Whys, variance trend analysis) and drive corrective actions to closure with owning departments Maintain a variance log and report recurring failure modes with recommended process changes Inventory Adjustments & Controls Execute and document inventory adjustments in the ERP system in accordance with approval thresholds and internal control requirements Ensure adjustment reason codes are accurate and complete to support meaningful trend analysis Support lot traceability, hold/release status accuracy, and FEFO/expiry integrity for date-sensitive materials Reporting & Metrics Publish inventory accuracy KPIs (count accuracy %, adjustment value, variance by area and reason code) on a weekly and monthly cadence Support month-end and year-end inventory close, including physical inventory events where required Provide inventory accuracy input to S&OE and planning reviews Cross-Functional & Continuous Improvement Partner with Warehouse, Production, Planning, and Quality to improve transaction discipline at the source Support 5S, slotting, and material flow initiatives that reduce count complexity and error opportunity Train warehouse and production personnel on correct inventory transactions Supervisory Responsibilities Directly supervises 2 Inventory Coordinators, including daily work direction, scheduling, performance feedback, training, and development. Escalates staffing and performance matters to the [Logistics Director] and Human Resources as appropriate. Qualifications Required 3-5 years of progressive inventory control experience in a manufacturing, distribution, or warehouse environment Demonstrated experience with cycle count programs, variance investigation, root cause analysis, and inventory adjustments Working proficiency in an ERP/WMS environment, including inventory transactions and reporting Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups) for variance and trend analysis Strong attention to detail with the ability to work to deadlines in a fast-paced operation Effective communication skills across shop floor and office environments Preferred Prior lead or supervisory experience Experience in food manufacturing or cold chain operations, including lot control, FEFO, and allergen segregation requirements
APICS/ASCM
certification (CPIM) or equivalent coursework Familiarity with lean tools (5S, standard work, visual management) Physical Requirements & Work Environment Ability to work in warehouse and production environments, including refrigerated and frozen storage areas Frequent standing and walking on the floor; occasional lifting up to [XX] lbs Schedule flexibility to support count coverage across shifts and periodic physical inventory events This job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed.
