Job Description

Job Title:
General Production Worker - 2nd Shift Job Description This role supports the production of high-quality hose and rubber products in a unionized manufacturing facility. You will work on the extrusion line under supervision, assist with machine setup and operation, and ensure products meet established quality and quantity standards. The position involves hands-on work with industrial equipment, adherence to safety and ISO requirements, and cross-training across multiple areas of extrusion to maintain consistent, reliable production. Responsibilities Perform general production duties under supervision to produce hose products that meet established quality and quantity standards. Assist the Extrusion Operator in all aspects of line operation, including setup, monitoring, and adjustment of equipment. Assemble and install parts to set up extruders and branders according to product specifications, including furnishing yarn dies and gears for lappers. Operate switches, valves, and levers to control power, water, air, vacuum, heat, and coolants throughout the extrusion process. Start compound into extruders and set tube, layer, cover gauge, and size to meet product requirements. Set up continuous flow by stringing or threading hose components from extruders through lappers and through the c-v tank. Constantly inspect the operation of assigned lines, perform continuous gauge and visual checks, and take corrective action to maintain quality and quantity specifications. Make timely checks on all equipment, materials, and tooling to verify proper condition and function, and report defects to supervision. Authenticate and complete all required reports accurately and on time. Develop and maintain skills in all line operations to provide relief coverage for other employees when necessary. Record usage of materials as required for production tracking and inventory control. Set up the line by preparing the lapper with proper dies, gears, tension rings, yarn, and yarn tension, and assist in starting hose through the extrusion line. Adjust equipment as needed and perform additional duties related to line setup and operation as directed by supervision. Truck yarn to the lapper, remove waste to appropriate locations, and weigh yarn as prescribed. Ensure the lapper is properly set up and ready to run, and start and maintain any required longitudinal yarns. Keep all safety equipment in place and in proper working order while performing job duties. Load lapper decks and support continuous operation of the extrusion line. Become cross-functional and trained in all areas of extrusion to support flexible production needs. Communicate compound change data to the Extrusion Operator at the time of change when required. Perform line shutdowns and changeovers safely and efficiently. Complete instruction in forklift operation and pass the required test to become authorized to operate a forklift, as needed. Perform other duties assigned by supervision to support production and plant operations. Maintain the work area in a clean and orderly condition throughout the shift, following housekeeping and safety standards. Conduct quality checks and complete documentation necessary for ISO compliance and customer requirements. Experience with packing and loading materials or finished products. Experience with machine operation and machine operating tasks in a manufacturing setting. Ability to read and follow product specifications and instructions for equipment setup. Ability to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining attention to detail and quality. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a cross-functional role within a manufacturing environment. Experience working as a spooler. Experience working as a reeler. Experience working with rubber products or within the automotive industry. Comfort working with older machinery in an established manufacturing facility. Ability to adapt to technology and automation as the plant transitions from paper-based and manual processes. Strong communication skills to coordinate with Extrusion Operators and supervision during compound changes and line adjustments. Why Work Here? The organization offers a stable, unionized environment with clear pathways for growth and promotion from within. Team members benefit from medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as a 401(k) plan to support long-term financial security. Safety is a priority, with safety glasses reimbursement provided, and leadership maintains a supportive relationship with union employees while focusing on continuous improvement and employee development. Work Environment The role is based in a non-climate-controlled rubber manufacturing facility with three main departments: extrusion, finishing, and mixing. The plant operates with older machinery and equipment, requiring comfort working in an industrial setting with continuous production processes. This is a union environment, and employees who transition to direct employment join the union, while managers remain non-union. Technology and automation are being implemented across the plant to replace paper-based and manual operations, so employees can expect evolving processes and systems. The position is on 2nd shift, Monday through Friday, from 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM, providing a consistent schedule.
