Job Description
The Plating Technician is responsible for preparing, processing, and monitoring customer parts through electroplating and related finishing operations while maintaining strict adherence to quality, safety, and production standards. This position ensures plated components meet customer specifications by following documented work instructions, maintaining process controls, and performing routine inspections throughout the plating process. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prepare customer parts for plating according to work instructions and travelers. Operate nickel, chrome, electroless nickel, and other plating processes as assigned. Load and unload parts from racks, fixtures, barrels, and plating equipment. Verify job travelers, specifications, and customer requirements before processing. Monitor plating parameters including time, temperature, current density, solution levels, and agitation. Perform visual inspections throughout the plating process to identify defects or abnormalities. Measure coating thickness using approved inspection equipment when required. Complete production paperwork accurately and in a timely manner. Report quality concerns, equipment malfunctions, and process deviations immediately. Assist with tank maintenance, solution additions, and chemistry support as directed. Maintain clean, organized work areas following 5S principles. Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and chemical handling requirements. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Mechanical aptitude. Ability to follow standardized procedures consistently. Basic understanding of quality requirements. Ability to identify defects and recognize process abnormalities. Good communication skills. Strong organizational skills. Willingness to learn multiple plating processes Safely operate cranes, hoists, forklifts, and other material handling equipment as authorized. Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve quality, productivity, and safety. Cross-train in multiple plating processes and assist other departments as needed Physical Requirements Frequently stand and walk for the duration of the shift. Regularly lift up to 50 pounds. Frequent reaching, bending, twisting, and repetitive hand motions. Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with heat, humidity, chemicals, and varying noise levels. Must be able to wear required PPE, including safety glasses, gloves, face shields, respirators (when required), steel-toe footwear, and hearing protection FREE Vision and Dental Insurance!
