About PumpTech PumpTech, a member of the Impel family of flow management businesses, is a leading distributor and manufacturer of pumps and pumping systems serving municipal, industrial, and commercial markets throughout the Northwest. We also support a variety of OEM customers and are fully equipped to develop and deliver solutions for custom applications. The Opportunity We are seeking a F ull-time Purchasing Specialist to take ownership of the procurement of raw materials, components, and outside services that keep our manufacturing operation running efficiently. This is a hands-on, fast-paced role that combines purchasing, supplier management, production support, and cost control. The Purchasing Specialist will build and maintain strong vendor relationships, negotiate pricing and terms, coordinate service providers, establish blanket purchase agreements and consignment arrangements, and ensure materials and services are available when needed. The ideal candidate is an experienced buyer who is highly organized, comfortable balancing competing priorities, and energized by a dynamic manufacturing environment. You should enjoy solving problems, working across departments, and finding practical ways to improve cost, quality, timing, and overall purchasing efficiency. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Calculate component requirements by analyzing engineering drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), production requirements, and stocking needs. Research and evaluate pricing, availability, lead times, and other purchasing considerations for required commodities and components. Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and prospective suppliers within assigned component categories. Negotiate supplier requirements including pricing, timing, quality, specifications, and delivery. Develop and maintain relationships with outside service providers, including machine shops, fabrication facilities, electricians, and other vendors. Place and manage component orders in alignment with production schedules and required material availability while considering shipping and other associated costs. Perform day-to-day purchasing activities, including creating and issuing purchase orders as needed. Take ownership of the Purchase Order process from creation through closing, ensuring accuracy and timely completion at every stage. Work closely with Production, Engineering, and Sales to determine appropriate product pricing, resolve purchasing needs, and support customer requirements. Identify and implement opportunities to reduce overall material, service, labor, and shipping costs. Manage and control vendor returns, ensuring timely resolution and accurate documentation. Participate directly in production planning and scheduling to ensure materials and outside services are available when needed. Support continuous improvement in purchasing processes, supplier performance, and overall procurement efficiency. Qualifications 3+ years of buying/purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment preferred. Strong attention to detail. Strong math and analytical skills. Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook. Experience working with an MRP/ERP system. Experience as a Demand Planner or Forecast Planner preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong project management and time management skills. Epicor experience is a big plus. Must successfully pass a background check. Must adhere to PumpTech's commitment to a drug-free workplace. Physical Demands This position is primarily sedentary, with some walking and stair climbing required.
