Shanks Extracts, LLC d/b/a Universal Ingredients Shanks is a premier manufacturer of vanilla extracts, other extracts, natural and artificial flavors, food colors, syrups, and sauces. Shanks quality products are widely distributed to industrial, private-label, and grocery customers worldwide. We have an immediate opening for a Control Room Operator.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION
The Control Room Operator is responsible for managing the efficient flow of materials, WIP & finished goods throughout the plant to meet its safety, quality, service & cost goals on a regular basis.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct material flow throughout multiple juice processing & extraction areasPartner with quality assurance in regard to material approving/ timingWork with lead operators to optimize schedule for maximum effectivenessConstantly communicate with team leaders/ machine operatorsParticipates in team-driven activities to facilitate production improvements or new product development projectsOperates computer control panel, or manually opens valves, and initiates the flow of product through equipment into designated tanks.

Track materials usage, production output as needed.

Actively work with maintenance, CI, and engineering to optimize overall line performance and material flow Ensure productivity by adhering to manufacturing practices, standard operating procedures, critical control points, and safety and food safety practices. Participates in the creation of SOPs, Standard settings, and continuous improvement activities. Identify potential problems and correct the defect or notify the appropriate resources. Maintain records to demonstrate compliance with safety, food safety, and environmental laws, regulations, or policies.

Assist machine operators and/or lead operators as neededPerforms other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL/SKILLS NEEDED
Microsoft Office Excel, Word, and Outlook experience The ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English Ability to meet production schedules or other deadlines with a team.

Good verbal and written communication skillsAbility to operate powered industrial equipment. Good interpersonal skills and ability to work well with a diverse group of staff, co-workers, and all those involved with the production process.

Must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, organized, and use good judgment.

Must be able to multitask and adapt to change. Must be willing to assist in the training of new staff and be logical and reasonable in identifying the strengths and weaknesses of coworkers to ensure proper training methods are imposed. Able to identify areas of improvement in complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

Must possess excellent time management skills for themselves and others Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and storing of goods.

Basic Math Skills. Ability to perform accurate weight measurements.

English comprehension including speaking, reading, and writing is required for our business's necessity to ensure a safe and effective work environment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE3-5
years of experience in a high-speed manufacturing environment food manufacturing preferred Understanding of production proceduresAbility to be forward thinking and optimize material flow through multiple work centersExperience with Lean manufacturing/continuous improvement methodologies desired.

High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree is a plus.

Knowledgeable on processing equipment (pumps, blending tanks, hoses, agitator, values) Experience in Food, Beverage or Pharmaceutical industry is a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
May require the employee to frequently lift and/or carry with two hands up to fifty (50) poundsRequired to stand and walk for an entire shift.

Requires frequent pushing, pulling, lifting, reaching bending, twisting, stooping, and squattingRequires frequent visual quality control observations which may include turning and bending of the head and neck area.

Requires frequent repetitive motion.

Must be able to work in various indoor temperatures including elevated heat and humidityExposure to elevated noise levels which occurs below OSHA thresholds.

Infrequent exposure to machine sanitation solutions and detergentsExposure to various spices and food manufacturing smells throughout a work shift.

Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment [PPE]Required to follow Good Manufacturing Practices [GMPs]May be required to work in noisy environments while using hearing protectionExposure to food allergens such as, but not limited to, milk eggs, tree nuts, wheat, and soybeans will occur.
