  • 11:20 PM) The Lead Operator
  • 2nd Shift focuses on setting up, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting manufacturing production.
The role operates machines or equipment, sets up and adjusts factors such as temperature, pressure, flow, and material reactions, and manually controls the unit or operates it via a control system. The Lead Operator runs up and shuts down production facilities, including product changeover activities; cleans and decontaminates equipment; maintains workplace housekeeping; drives forklifts; fills and takes over tank wagons; conducts routine analytics and takes samples; coordinates equipment maintenance and repairs with the technical team; and documents and communicates work results during shift handovers.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Packaging Focused Area Under direction from Production Management, the Lead Operator supports an assigned production area by performing operator duties, assisting with training new peer operators, preparing and coordinating materials for successful shift changeovers, supporting schedule-attainment demands and labor adjustments, resolving daily equipment roadblocks that affect product output, contributing to production optimization in the assigned area, and working cross-functionally on projects. Approximately 75% of tasks are directly related to shop-floor operations within the assigned area; 25% are administrative tasks supporting shop-floor operations. Assist in training peers on daily operator tasks as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), and identify training needs and gaps to recommend future department training. Apply Daily Operating Systems (DOS), PDCA, problem-solving methods, and KPIs to facilitate coordination of line teams and department deliverables. Monitor, track, and trend major losses; drive continuous-improvement actions and process optimization using tools such as PSS, 5S, Lean, Six Sigma, Gemba Walks, and safety practices. Coordinate and perform changeover activities, including redistributing personnel within a focused production area to support successful changeovers. Coordinate responses to and troubleshoot daily operator issues, SAP/MES system issues, and equipment problems with support groups and the operator team; escalate to supervision when additional corrective action is needed. Execute inventory adjustments and cycle counts as needed. Assist with creation, editing, and management of formal standard documents or digital media. Participate as an operator SME and/or department representative in support of department projects and goals. Facilitate and complete A3 / Root Cause Analysis with line teams and establish sustainable resolutions. Review completed packaging orders and batch manufacturing records (BMRs) for accuracy, including SAP transactions. Provide feedback to supervisors and the Training Team on shop-floor team maturity and development opportunities associated with PSS Advancement Phases. Perform other duties as trained and assigned, including Associate Technician duties. Manufacturing Focused Area Under direction from Production Management, the Lead Operator supports Continuous Improvement for Manufacturing in accordance with cGMP, local laws, and company policies. The role promotes a Continuous Improvement culture essential to achieving production volumes, operational efficiencies, competitive costs, and compliance with safety and quality standards. Continuous Improvement activities support the site scorecard, fulfill safety expectations, and satisfy internal and external customer needs. The Lead Operator also fulfills key leadership and support duties, provides day-to-day backup support for technical and non-technical production personnel, supports accuracy of workflow and departmental-goal attainment, covers select supervisory duties for supervisors and production assistants, and serves as a lead employee for technical and non-technical personnel. Implement improvements identified by department management, production employees, and support groups; identify and implement Lean improvements; and support products and/or new-system enhancements. Serve as a principal leader for continuous-improvement project teams. Lead and/or facilitate Kaizen events, involving employees in problem solving, decision making, and implementation of identified continuous-improvement opportunities. Collaborate with operators and support personnel on projects including training, building projects, HSE initiatives, continuous improvements, Qual card documents, Cleaning Record documents, and 5S initiatives. Identify department training needs; provide training and reinforcement of best practices; and create and present material to introduce or reinforce best practices in cross-functional areas. Provide technical and functional support for development and implementation of Standard Work throughout the department. Support production operations, production planning, and material-control improvement projects relating to total cycle time, material flow, performance tracking, and other identified needs; collect, organize, and analyze data to support department and site metrics. Assist area supervision with assignments and provide backup supervisor/production-assistant support for day-to-day needs; act as supervisor in the absence of department supervision. Support IQ/OQ/PQ, cleaning validations, other projects, and other assigned duties. Demonstrate strong verbal, written, and computer skills, including the ability to track and analyze data and present findings that drive action. Work alternate hours and overtime as needed to provide support for all three production shifts. Demonstrate commitment to Bayer values. Assist in training peers on daily operator tasks as an SME, identify training needs and gaps, and recommend future department training. Facilitate and complete A3 / Root Cause Analysis with teams to create sustainable resolutions. Facilitate, direct, and lead Level 1.5 daily meetings; create action items, delegate work, and ensure completion. Perform other duties as trained and assigned, including Pharmaceutical Operator duties.
WHO YOU ARE
Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Willingness to work overtime as required based on production demands. Willingness to flex time on off shifts when needed. `
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate degree in a technical trade, business, communications, or science field. Three years of hands-on operating experience and five years of experience in a government-regulated Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) or standard operating procedures (SOP) environment. Proficient knowledge of
PSS, PSS
Advancement, Integrated Work System, World Class Manufacturing, Toyota Production System, or a similar work system. At least six months of experience using motorized and non-motorized material-handling equipment, and at least one year of experience using an automated inventory system. Mechanical aptitude with demonstrated changeover execution, preventive maintenance, mechanical/equipment troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills gained through job experience or education. Advanced SAP, MES, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with teams. Employees can expect to be paid an hourly rate between $29.65
