Line Operator (1st Shift) Job Description This role supports a rotating Line 1 production team that manufactures and finishes blades using a conveyor, furnace, press, quench, and paint line. You will work across multiple stations during an 8-hour shift, handling parts safely, monitoring quality, and contributing to a clean, efficient, and team-oriented manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Rotate through four Line 1 positions over the course of each 8-hour shift as part of a coordinated team operation. Place blades onto a conveyor line that moves them through an oven or furnace, following all safety and handling procedures. Use a hand tool or grabber to remove heated blades from the conveyor and correctly place them into a press. Remove blades from the press and place them into a quench system to cool, ensuring proper timing and handling. Hang cooled blades on a line for painting and remove them after painting for further processing. Perform visual and tactile quality inspections on painted and finished blades to identify defects and ensure they meet standards before shipment. Follow established operating rhythms and standard work instructions to maintain consistent production flow. Use measuring tools and basic measurement techniques to verify dimensions and quality where required. Maintain attention to detail at all stations to prevent defects and ensure safe, accurate operation. Work collaboratively with teammates, communicate effectively, and support others as the team rotates through stations. Keep work areas clean and organized, contributing to a safe and efficient production line. Adapt to varying temperatures, particularly at stations near the furnace or oven, while following safety guidelines. Essential Skills Previous experience in general labor, production, or manufacturing environments. Ability to stand on your feet for 10-hour shifts while rotating among different stations. Ability to lift 40-50 pounds safely and repeatedly as part of normal job duties. Strong attention to detail with a focus on identifying quality defects in finished parts. Basic measuring skills and comfort using measuring tools in a production setting. Ability to follow established operating rhythms and standard procedures as part of a team process. Solid critical thinking skills to respond appropriately to issues on the line and maintain safe operations. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team player in a fast-paced production or assembly line environment. Comfort with machine operation and assembly line processes, including safe use of tools and equipment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with assembly, assembly line work, or machine operation in a manufacturing setting. Familiarity with quench, press, furnace, or similar thermal and mechanical processes. Previous experience in quality inspection or visual defect detection. Willingness to learn new processes and cross-train across multiple stations. Openness to working different shifts (1st, 2nd, or 3rd) as needed by the operation. Why Work Here? Work Environment The facility is clean, very organized, and structured around a production line that operates alongside welding, shipping and receiving, and engineering departments. Line 1 operates on multiple shifts, with typical schedules of 6:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. for 1st shift, 2:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. for 2nd shift, and 10:00 p.m.-6:00 a.m. for 3rd shift. You will be on your feet for most of a 10-hour shift and rotate among stations, including areas near an oven or furnace where temperatures can be higher. The role involves lifting 40-50 pounds and using tools such as hand grabbers, presses, quench equipment, and paint lines. Orientation begins at 6:00 a.m. and typically lasts about an hour and a half, followed by a facility tour, lunch, and job shadowing so you can observe each position and understand expectations. The dress environment emphasizes safety and practicality, with merchandise vouchers available for work shirts, pants, and protective footwear such as metatarsal shoes. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rock Island, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.50 - $17.50/hr.
