CUSTOM CAKE & TIERED SPECIALIST DECORATOR
North Smithfield, Rhode Island $25 per hour | Full-time | 35-40 hours per week
ABOUT THE ROLE
Wright's Dairy Farm & Bakery is seeking an experienced Custom Cake & Tiered Specialist Decorator to create high-quality custom, specialty, and tiered cakes. This is an advanced, hands-on decorating position for someone who already has strong technical skills and can independently execute detailed designs with little to no technical training. The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, maintains high expectations, and has a keen eye for detail, accuracy, color, balance, and presentation. This is not an entry-level decorating position.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Complete custom and specialty orders accurately and on time. Produce tiered cakes, including proper preparation, support, assembly, stacking, finishing, and decoration. Review order details to ensure the correct flavor, filling, frosting, colors, design, inscription, and finishing elements are used. Apply advanced decorating techniques, including: Smooth and rustic finishes Detailed piping and borders Buttercream flowers Cake writing and inscriptions Airbrushing Fondant work Tiered cake assembly Other specialty designs Work with whipped cream, traditional buttercream, Italian buttercream, cream cheese frosting, and other toppings. Prepare royal icing cookies, retail cakes, pastry platters, and other decorated products as assigned. Review production lists, reports, order details, and completion times to prioritize multiple time-sensitive orders. Inspect finished products for accuracy, stability, presentation, and overall quality before they are released. Communicate order discrepancies, supply needs, production concerns, and quality issues promptly. Coordinate with the Decorating, Finishing, and Retail teams to support order flow and customer satisfaction. Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workspace. Follow company recipes, SOPs, food-safety requirements, sanitation procedures, allergen controls, and quality standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
At least three years of professional, high-volume cake-decorating experience. Professional experience producing custom, specialty, and tiered cakes. Working knowledge of advanced decorating techniques. Ability to independently perform the required techniques with little to no technical training after orientation to Wright's products and procedures. Strong artistic judgment and a keen eye for detail. High personal expectations and a commitment to producing consistently excellent work. Ability to read and accurately execute detailed customer orders. Strong organization, prioritization, and time-management skills. Dependable, flexible, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment. Able to accept direction and respond constructively to feedback. High school diploma or GED required. A portfolio demonstrating custom, specialty, or tiered cake work is preferred.
SCHEDULE AND AVAILABILITY
Approximately 35-40 hours per week. Regular schedule is Wednesday through Sunday. Holiday and weekend availability is required and is a nonnegotiable requirement of the position. Typical shifts are 5 AM -1 PM or 11 AM - 7 PM depending on workload, season, and customer demand. Must be able to occasionally remain beyond the scheduled end time when reasonably necessary to complete time-sensitive orders or assigned production work.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Remain on your feet, standing or walking, for most or all of the shift. Perform detailed and repetitive decorating work using your hands and fingers. Frequently reach, bend, twist, and perform repetitive motions. Frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds, with assistance when appropriate. Safely handle and transport cakes, trays, ingredients, tools, and equipment, including fragile and multi-tiered products. Use close vision, color vision, depth perception, and careful visual focus to complete detailed decorating work and inspect product quality.
