Description:
Position Overview Responsible for the daily operation and monitoring of the facility's wastewater treatment system, ensuring wastewater is properly treated and discharged in compliance with environmental regulations and permit requirements. This role supports plant operations by maintaining treatment equipment, testing water quality, and maintaining accurate records of treatment processes.
Requirements:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operate and monitor wastewater treatment equipment, including pumps, tanks, filters, and chemical feed systems Add and adjust treatment chemicals as needed to maintain proper water quality levels Collect water samples and perform routine testing (e.g., pH, turbidity, conductivity) to ensure compliance with discharge permit limits Monitor gauges, meters, and control systems throughout each shift to identify abnormal readings or equipment issues Perform routine equipment checks and basic maintenance; report equipment malfunctions to maintenance or supervisor Maintain accurate logs and records of testing results, chemical usage, and equipment readings for regulatory reporting Manage sludge and waste byproduct handling and disposal in accordance with facility procedures and environmental regulations Follow all safety protocols when handling treatment chemicals, including proper use of PPE Notify supervisor immediately of any out-of-compliance readings, spills, or system failures Support internal and external environmental audits or inspections as needed Maintain a clean and organized treatment room work area Perform other production duties as assigned Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required Prior experience in wastewater treatment, water/wastewater operations, or a related industrial environment preferred Wastewater treatment operator certification a plus, or willingness to obtain certification as required by state regulations Basic understanding of chemical handling and safety procedures Ability to read and interpret gauges, meters, and testing equipment Basic math skills for calculating chemical dosing and interpreting test results Strong attention to detail and record-keeping accuracy Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and work in an environment involving exposure to chemicals, odors, and wet conditions Working Conditions Work is performed in a treatment room environment with exposure to chemicals, moisture, and varying temperatures Requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting for extended periods Personal protective equipment (PPE) required at all times in designated areas
