Job Title:
General Production Worker Job Description The General Production Worker maintains a constant flow of operations in a high-volume production environment by safely handling, moving, and delivering materials to each operation. This role operates motorized and manual equipment to transport raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods, while ensuring the production line does not experience parts shortages. The position supports in-house logistics, shipping preparation, and basic equipment checks, contributing to a clean, safe, and efficient manufacturing process. Responsibilities Transport raw materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods between production control and manufacturing areas to support continuous production flow. Communicate effectively with manufacturing team members and team leaders to maintain an even flow of materials and prevent line shortages. Use the production plan to determine and support the average number of parts needed per hour. Receive raw materials and move them to appropriate temporary storage locations. Maintain and control packaging materials to ensure availability and proper usage. Transfer completed parts within the facility to finished goods and dunnage areas as part of in-house logistics. Prepare finished goods and other materials for shipping according to established procedures. Maintain and control dunnage, including sending and receiving, washing, and storage of returnable dunnage. Perform preventative maintenance and routine checks on assigned equipment and machinery. Participate in a team-oriented environment and contribute to continuous improvement projects and process enhancements. Recognize and define problems, collect relevant data, and assist team leaders in developing conclusions and solutions. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including proper disposal of waste materials. Follow work instructions, procedures, and company policies accurately and consistently. Meet or exceed required production standards while maintaining quality and safety. Complete assigned tasks under time pressure and in stressful situations while maintaining accuracy. Perform other related duties as required to support production and logistics operations. Essential Skills Ability to safely operate motorized equipment such as pallet jacks and carts. Valid driver's license and ability to maintain it in good standing. Experience coordinating multiple tasks in a fast-paced, high-volume production environment. Ability to read and follow written work instructions, procedures, and policies. Basic machining knowledge and ability to apply machining concepts in a production setting. Ability to calculate figures and amounts using whole numbers and decimals. Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to recognize issues, collect data, and assist in developing solutions. Ability to operate computerized equipment. Effective oral and written communication skills for interacting with team members and leaders. Ability to work both independently with minimal direction and collaboratively within a team environment. Capacity to pay close attention to detail and maintain accuracy in repetitive tasks. Ability to adapt to change in processes, priorities, and work assignments. Demonstrated reliability, credibility, and honesty in the workplace. Resilience and the ability to recover from or adjust to setbacks. Self-motivation and internal drive to perform tasks to the best of one's ability. Ability to comprehend complex technical topics and specialized information. Ability to consistently perform at required production standards. High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred. Additional Skills & Qualifications Certificates or diplomas from an accredited college or skill center in machining or machine tool manufacturing are highly desired. Experience in high-volume manufacturing, preferably in the automotive industry, is preferred. Solid work history demonstrating reliability and commitment. Willingness to cross-train and perform functions in multiple areas of production and logistics. Ability to maintain focus, vision, and mental alertness throughout the shift. Work Environment This role is based in a manufacturing facility within a mass, high-volume production environment. Work takes place near moving mechanical parts and around industrial equipment, with occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme non-weather heat, vibration, and a moderate noise level. The position involves frequent use of motorized and manual material-handling equipment such as pallet jacks and carts, as well as computerized equipment used in production and logistics. Employees are expected to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and to follow all safety procedures and guidelines appropriate for a manufacturing setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Morristown, TN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $16.80/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
